Namaste and greetings to the Steemit community! I am so thrilled and excited to start my journey on Steemit finally. My name is Parth Upadhyay and I am originally from Mumbai city in India. Although since the past few years, mountains have been my home. I am a mountaineer by profession and I also specialize in alpine skiing, rock climbing, backpacking and photography.
I am a graduate of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering but I never chose the path of 9 to 5 job after graduating. I would like to share a small story about the same with you guys. I will keep it short I promise!
It was after my 10th grade in my vacations and I was doing nothing productive. One fine evening, my dad was watching the news and he called me in to watch it. It was about a 16 year old boy from India who climbed Mt. Everest. Something happened to me while watching that news. A spark was ignited inside of me and I thought that maybe I should try trekking as well. I went online and searched for local treks in Sahyadri mountain ranges in Maharashtra. I found a trek happening on Kalsubai Peak on the coming weekend. I signed up for it. When I was on Kalsubai summit, I got my calling that this is what I want my life to be. I got addicted to everything about trekking. This addiction only grows after each trek I do.
After my 12th grade, I got into aircraft maintenance engineering due to parental pressure. While in college, I used to trek every weekend and made it a point to travel to Himalayas at least twice a year. I was getting more and more hooked to this world. In my last semester, I received job offers from 3 airlines in India but I rejected them all because I had other plans in mind. When my parents got to know about this, they weren’t happy. Their concern was how can climbing mountains earn me money? It is a very genuine concern. But I was very clear about my ideas and was very persistent with my actions and work. They saw my dedication and passion for it now they are very proud and happy with what I do.
In the past 8 years that I have been trekking, I have had some life changing experiences. I have travelled to some of the remotest parts of the world, climbed deadliest mountains, and faced wild animals and so much more. Can’t wait to share all of that with all of you here!
