Perhaps Should Have Done This First.....

Hey all! New here to Steemit and still reading the entirety of what this site is about. I get the basics and really like the idea. Having frequented many forums over the years, since AOL chatroom days even, I thought I would just jump in with some of my own content.

I'm a fan of civil political debate, even though I'm full aware the current two party (American) system is a farce. I thoroughly enjoy hearing/reading different views on particular issues. Especially the ones that play again after history has shown an answer.

I'm an avid gamer. RPG's mostly. Some shooters and some MMO's. Really into PC hardware and my latest build is an i5 6600k OC'ed to 4.0 on liquid. 1070 Hybrid 8g through a 1440p 144hz monitor. Currently taking some time off however.

Also into homesteading. Well, not entirely nor as devoted as some of those I look to for advice, baby steps here! We'll have our land in about 6 months. Next spring hoping to have 2 goats and hogs. Few chickens and perhaps some bees. That's the plan and everyone knows about well laid plans!

I'm a father as well and my greatest aspiration is to keep my children's minds open and provide all of the usable knowledge I can.

Looking forward to meeting more of you. Enjoy your day!!

Wellcome to the community!

Welcome! You know the political system is a farce. Check! You're a gamer. Check! You are into homesteading. Check! It sounds like we have a lot in common, and it's a pleasure to meet you. I look through promising new account intro posts almost every day, and I'm glad to have found yours. Please consider the chat options in my normally shared info to follow. I'd love to chat with another friend of liberty!

Oh, I also brew mead, and I have 36 gallons brewing right now. Perhaps I can barter for some of your honey one day in the future. ;-)

There are a ton of other webpages to help you with Steemit. Here are some of the best for beginners:

https://steemd.com/ (This site is used to keep track of your voting power and other stats. You do not want to run out of voting power, and you only get so much per day. I keep my voting power around 80% for example.)

https://steem.makerwannabe.com/ (This site will tell you who follows you, who unfollows you, and who mutes you. It is great for meeting new people too. I regularly check it to see who has followed me to see if I should follow them back.)

https://steemit.chat/ (This site is the official chat webpage for Steemit. There are Discord channels too, but I usually stick to the official site. Come in to network and meet new friends. You can directly message people there too, so it makes it easier to communicate with your closest friends.)

Oh yeah, there are a lot of bots on here. If you see a cookie cutter reply, especially to your intro post, it is almost certainly a bot. Check the account's reputation. If it is low, I would recommend just ignoring them. Everything is public on Steemit, so you can go look at an account's comments and replies. Are they all the same? It's a bot.

Adding photos to your account as a new Steemian may be confusing at first too. The easiest way it to click to "Submit a Story." Once in there, use the built in Steemit tool to upload an image from your computer. Below the posting window, you will see "Insert images by dragging & dropping, pasting from the clipboard, or by selecting them." Click on the blue text. Once the image is uploaded, you can copy and paste the link into your account settings.

Verifying your identity is very important because it will get you more support and people will trust you more. The best way to verify is to link back to your Steemit account by using another public social media account. For example, I posted my Steemit articles from here through my Twitter account. Another person posted their Steemit information on their Facebook account. Some people will even post a video of themselves writing out their account information since that cannot be Photoshopped. The more famous a person is or the more valuable their content is, the more important it is that they verify. If a new account falls within those two categories and fails to verify, it may get blacklisted.

Again, welcome, and I've followed you! If you have any questions about getting started, look me up on the chat site.

I don't think there could be a more welcoming reply. Loads of information there and I appreciate it very much!

You've given me plenty to dig through.

You're very welcome! If you have any questions, please ask. I'll gladly help.

I have a few. Should I resteem others posts that I enjoy? Would it even matter as I am a new user?

How can I get more folks to see my posts? I've no ego drive here, but my posts have like 1 or two views. Maybe play with the title or image?

What can I do to support other users and their content?

You can join us at a couple of different Steemit Chats where we interact and share our posts. If you are interactive with that group, a shared post will almost always be upvoted and possibly resteemed.

Liberty Professionals is our chat room. You'll find @finnian and myself there.

Welcome to Steemit!

#libertarian and #cooperative_agorism are other excellent channels to find friends within too!

Resteems are very powerful for people who have a lot of quality followers.

When they resteem the post of a less powerful user, that presents the more powerful person's followers with the new person's content. It is an excellent way to gain followers for the new person.

The second best way to gain quality followers is to have your friends upvote a good reply to an existing user's trending or otherwise popular post.

What about the upvotes? Are there adverse effects to over-using them?

It uses your voting power. You only get so much, and it slowly recovers over time. The steemd.com and other sites will tell you what your power is. The more steem power your account has, the more power your vote has.

One other bit of advice: Tag your post with all 5 tags available. That way it is seen not only on the #IntroduceYourself feed, but all the others as well. Be sure to only tag with appropriate tags. Tag spam is really dealt with harshly!

That's good advice as well, thank you.

Welcome to Steemit. It's a great place for writers to get rewarded for their work.

Good luck

Oh, that reminds me, I write poetry and short stories as well!

Thanks for the welcome, glad to be here.

Welcome to Steemit! :)
