Hello and welcome to our blog. This is an introduction post for the blog of JP Steinberg and Tammy Workley. We met in third grade, that was almost forty years ago (thirty-eight to be exact). Our acquaintance began on the school playground. From there, a friendship blossomed that would last a lifetime, although we did not know it then.
For the next five years we accompanied each other on our walks to and from school. We played together during recess. After school and on weekend we would occasionally play in the neighborhood. Our playdates were always innocent. Neither of us can recall having held hands. We never labelled ourselves as boyfriend and girlfriend. And although we attended our eight grade graduation dance together, our only memory of taking our friendship to another level is one innocent kiss from Tammy's finger to JP's lips. We were kids.
The summer after eighth grade our lives went two very separate directions. JP began to run away from home numerous times in order to escape a toxic environment until ultimately winding up a trouble teen on the streets of New York City. Tammy, as well, faced much emotional turmoil, unbeknownst to JP. As far as our memories go, the dance is the last time we saw each other until just a couple of weeks ago. Inadvertently, we lost touch.
Life went on. Tammy married and divorced twice. JP fathered two children. Tammy received a masters in social work and went on to hold down a lifelong career as a clinical social worker. JP had a career in music, and after some years using and selling drugs is well on his way to achieving a masters in social work as well.
Several months ago, our lives crossed paths again. We connected on social media a few years ago over no more than a few sentences of catching up via messenger. Then, after some more of life's ups and downs, we reconnected via messenger over some more innocent catching up. This time, the catching up went further and deeper.
After some weeks going back and forth via messenger, we graduated to phone calls. Our phone calls eventually went from a few minutes to not wanting to hang up like teenagers in love. We began to feel things for one another in ways we both agree we have not before. It all seemed so unreal and too good to be true. Yet here we are, sitting side-by-side typing our first blog post together.
We decided to spend the month of April together to celebrate our birthdays which are only several days apart and to see if we are capable of cohabitating. So far so good.
We are very different in many ways. Tammy lives what she deems a mundane life, JP is a dreamer pursuing a career in changing the world. Together we bring a sense of balance to each others' lives. Our plan is to move in together this summer. We have our concerns and apprehensions, but we are both willing and ready to dive in head-first.
We thank you for taking the time to read this and hope that you will follow along.
