I am very pleased to introduce myself to you, I am @JuliusC
I feel very motivated to establish a sustained and interesting communication through this medium.
Here introducing me in Steemit
I will be permanently disposed to offer the best of my knowledge and experience for the benefit of your experiences, both in the professional field, supported by my training as Mechanical Engineer and University Professor, as well as socially, by virtue of an extensive existential interaction with people of different cultures.
At the same time, I´ve got no doubt that I will find varied opportunities for personal growth, through this scenario offered to us. The teaching of engineering is the main work that I currently perform in prestigious university institutions in my country: Simón Bolívar University and the Metropolitan University, both with good positions into international classifications in the correspondent field.
Here I am in December 1972 studying at the Simon Bolivar University.
Guess who am i hahaha.
The approach of any problematic or subject of discussion will reveal nuances of engineering in its analysis and pedagogy in its divulgation, characteristic elements of my own thinking structure. In the exercise of this activity, I have been able to confirm the positive effect of engineering as a behavioral modifier. This condition is not only applicable to the resolution of academic problems.
While a good methodological development leads to satisfactory results in specific learning situations of the physical and mathematical sciences, that training in the methodological solution of problems tacitly prepares the individual or group of individuals to face with very good probabilities of success facing future situations of their professional field and perhaps even more in the social field. There is a growth in the capacity for analysis and management of methodological tools that will characterize the behavior and development of new professional competencies. For example, Rational Mechanics analyzes problems simulating real situations that require the collaboration of engineering methodology as a medium of applying Newton's Laws for the understanding of physical phenomena.
In this routine, we use mathematical models that represent the physical objects and the system to which they belong, establishing conditions that isolate and put into relevance the fundamental variables of the problem, then we apply equations that are solved by mathematical procedures to obtain problem solution. This methodology is perfectly reproducible in the analysis and solution of problems of other branches of science, such as Chemistry, Thermodynamics or Electricity and even in Medicine and Biology. In fact, not long ago these two disciplines have found support in engineering, not only for the analysis of their particular problems but also in the development of tools, devices and equipment that facilitate and improve their operability and applicability.
As an illustration we can mention that the circulatory system of the human being is compared with a network of liquid adduction pipes, the respiratory system with a pneumatic installation, imageneology has been developed through advanced instruments and electronic tests equipment, relevant advances in the human organism engineering have been obtained based on “genetic engineering”, Psychologists have been recognized as, the "Engineers of Human Behavior”, and so forth. Thus, in modern times, particularly the exercise of simulation of real situations at the level of the academy has been greatly favored by advances in engineering.
There are numerous computational tools that allow the student to interact with the specific model of a real system in practically any area of knowledge. Software has been introduced to analyze the operational mode or to develop the design of mechanical and structural systems, tutorials for the study of the presentation and behavior of carbon in their orbital, hybridization and link chains in organic chemistry, applications to visualize and interact with graphics of multivariable functions, etc. New technologies have increased and continue increasing their presence in our societies, generating important processes of change and adaptation to new existential orders. Therefore, a curricular design that does not contemplate the integration of computational tools, internet, digital programming, electronic communication, and other advances is not conceived.
As a personal experience I was part of an innovative educational program in my country. In 1977, Simon Bolívar University founded the Nucleo del Litoral, with the intention of training University Superior Technicians in different areas related to engineering and administrative or commercial services. It began with the Electrical Technology, Electronic Technology, Mechanical Technology and Aircraft Mechanics Technology in the first group. With Tourism Administration, Hotel Administration, Port and and Transportation Administration, Foreign Trade, Customs Administration and Business Organization belonging to the second group. Technical professionals would then be trained to attend to the management of policies and the execution of projects and design from existing manufacturing companies and public or private institutions related to the ten (10) mentioned disciplines.
Students would be trained for three (3) years and then as a graduate would join the labor market as expressed above, in executor plan. The most innovative of this creation of the University was the selected learning system: the student would train himself, under the motto and philosophy of "learning by doing", with the guidance of teachers and the support of human and physical resources arranged for that purpose. It was intended to break with the scheme of the traditional class. It could be said that it consisted of a semi-face-to-face mode, where the individual planned his / her academic progress according to his / her availability and abilities. He studied the content topics corresponding to the objectives of each subject on his own and asked to the teacher only if he felt the need for reinforcement in a particular topic.
In the same way, students decided when to carry out the evaluations of the learning in the different subjects, according to the advance in the acquisition of knowledge that themselves observed. The approval of each subject corresponded to the approval of 100% of the learning objectives proposed, with a 100% achievement level. Teachers were responsible for the design of such subjects and assessments, which should be permanently available to the students, since each one "advanced at their own pace" and not in a group manner as in the traditional courses. Likewise, the practical laboratory or workshop activities would have to be in order for the moment required by each student as entity and unit.
As you can see, it consisted of a system that should always be ready, with human, physical and administrative resources permanently on offer. It can be inferred that the development of a learning system of such characteristics involved a great investment of all kinds of efforts, such as the required capital, the administrative platform, the teaching and support human resources, the physical resources of study rooms, laboratories or workshops, etc.
This project as it was conceived had to be modified ten (10) years later, because the expected performance of students was not reached. On very rare occasions, the culmination of the studies was achieved in the foreseen time. Probable causes of the failure of the system were analyzed and modifications were introduced, initially in a light way but progressively in the system philosophy until becoming the traditional classroom education system.
Perhaps the preparation of the teachers in their role within the system was not the most appropriate, or maybe our students were not prepared to take responsibility for their training or no dispose of modern computer advances, were factors which attempted against the good and success of system n management . We do not know. The modern trend is the coexistence of three system study modalities: face-to-face studies, semi-face-to-face studies and non contact studies.
Well my friends, this is all for now, but our interactions are just beginning. Soon we will be in contact to offer you other topics of varied reading that I hope will interest you. Needless to say, I count on your important support.
Thanks for all, i'll wait for your comments and i hope you like me and my content.
