Joining the Party - My Steemit Introduction!

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Hey fellow Steemians! So, it’s time that I make my first post – my introduction to the world that is SteemIt. Let me preface this by saying that I do not enjoy talking about myself…and I tend to ramble. So, please bear with me ☺

So, Who is keciah?

My name is Kecia, if you didn’t gather that from my username ☺

I am a 30-something work at home mom, wife, blogger, and writer, born in raised in Georgia (USA, not the European country). I love being from the south, even though I hate sweet tea, beans, and cornbread. And the accent, it draws a lot of attention when I travel!

Blogging has always been my one true love in regards to writing online. I started blogging way back in 2005, though I didn’t earn any money with it until 2011. I have attended several blogging conferences and I am in even more blogging groups on Facebook.

Currently, I own the blog, From Mom's Desk, where I help other moms save money, make money, and live well! I teach blogging tips as well as best practices for being a work at home mom.

I have two sons, ages 7 and 4, and they are my reason for staying home and pounding away at the keyboard all day.

The oldest is in first grade and just got invited to the Excel program!! Yes, I am certainly a proud mama! My youngest will be starting school in the fall, so for now, he is home to torture (umm, I mean, entertain) me while I work.

I have actually been working from home since before my kids were born. I quit my last “real job” in 2008 so I could focus on college full time. The plan was to become an elementary school teacher, and I was blogging and freelance writing to supplement my husband’s income while I was in school.

When Plans Change…

However, things don’t always work out the way we plan them! I became pregnant with our oldest in early 2010, just a couple weeks into the second semester of my third year in college.

Morning sickness was a BEAST, and I decided to withdraw to keep from flunking out of college due to missing so many classes. The plan was to have our son in September 2010, then return to college the following August. Again, that plan didn’t work out!

I loved being a work at home mom too much. So, my husband and I worked it out to where I could stay home and continue blogging and writing while taking care of our little boy. This prevented daycare costs, but it meant I wouldn’t be going back to college.

Honestly, it’s a decision I do NOT regret! Since then, we added the youngest boy to complete our family and it’s been great staying at home with them.

I seriously enjoy having the freedom of being my own boss. I get to attend school field trips, class parties, and parent-teacher meetings without having to ask for a day off. It’s amazing!

My Intentions for SteemIt

I’ll be honest. I don’t know exactly what I am going to write about here just yet. I love to write about anything and everything. Okay, that may be a slight exaggeration…but I feel only writing about 1-2 topics here would cause me to suffer from burnout.

So, Iet me just tell you some of my interests and what I will probably share on my channel.

Kids and Parenting

As a mom of two, it’s easy for me to share my opinions, advice, and thoughts on parenting. And I still have my love for teaching, even though I didn’t finish college. I have worked with my two boys a great deal and still think about homeschooling them all the time. I will share early childhood education posts here.

Self Improvement

I am doing a lot of personal self-improvement in 2018, so I plan to share some of my journey and findings here. It will be mostly about weight loss, getting healthier, and battling anxiety and depression. This isn’t really something I want to put on my main blog, so I feel that SteemIt is a good place. I think it will make a great series here!

Marriage

After being married for 10 years, I have lots of share about being married. We have definitely had our ups and downs, but we are in a great place in our relationship now. I’d like to share exactly how we got there.

Entrepreneurship & Working from Home

It’s in my nature to talk about being your own boss and running a business, so that will likely come out here as well. They will be more how-to content but I’ll though in my own experiences as well.

Randomness

I am sure there will be other, of-the-wall topics that I write about here and there. I am also into things like travel, tech, TV, planners, and home organization…I just won’t write about them a ton. The randomness will help keep things fresh and popping around my SteemIt channel!

I was so happy to see you here, Kecia. In case you're wondering why, we are both in Liz's PLR group. Seems like we're going down a similar path when it comes to writing. And there are a couple more from our PLR group here.

Like you, I love the freedom that working at home gives me, and I look forward to reading all your posts, especially the ones on self improvement. It's amazing how much we can help each other by sharing our stories.

You did a great job on this post and I know you'll continue to do great work here.

Hi @katebenzin - It's great to see you here too. I think we are both in the same discord server too? I'm still trying to get the hang of this Steemit thing, but it has been lots of fun! Thank you for the kind words, I'm going to follow you and start reading up on your posts too. :)

Hello there party mother, I'm Oatmeal Joey, and my mom home taught me & my 3 siblings in Oregon. I believe in family values, in the fundamental value of parents, the need children have for parents. I have not been to Georgia but maybe should. I love movies, TV, tech, music, etc.... thanks for sharing advice and everything for people. Welcome to Steemit.

Welcome to Steemit! I look forward to reading your posts.

Hello Keciah,

It's great to hear that your oldest got invited to the Excel program. Am I right to asume that the Excel program is a higher-level learning program for children who perform at higher levels.

Yes, plans change. I myself have not yet finished university. Sometimes, I wish I had a degree now, but I also know that I'm on an unfolding journey with interesting twists and turns. It's almost an adventure, because although I have plans, I don't know where it's going. (Does anyone?)

One topic idea you can write on is, "What Makes A Marriage Last 10 Years?" (Though, I think the larger the number of years, the better. I'm thinking of two friends who have been married for 50 years, I think. We can learn about lasting relationships from them.)

I love the idea of working from home...or, anywhere with an Internet connection. My next phase is massive growth.

Welcome to Steemit, and I hope you find it's fruits worthwhile, as it rewards you for creating and sharing.
