I originally intended to let this slide and not write about it mostly due to the fact that I was careless but then, I have to do this for the overall benefit of the community.
Formerly @kingabesh, now @kingabesh1. All I do is try to improve the blockchain by posting quality contents which isn’t what we usually see around here.
I spend a great deal of time reading posts I find interesting here too and I try as much as possible to leave honest comments and also upvote the quality ones. That was actually the cause of my downfall today but I won’t stop doing the right thing (commenting on and upcoming quality contents) anyway.
I was a bit unfortunate today or maybe careless I’ll say but definitely not stupid. I basically tried to invite a newbie to a discord channel owned by @steemstem of which I’m a proud member and all we do is aim at promoting quality contents in science, technology, engineering and maths.
This is not the first time I’m doing this as I like to look out for promising writers and give them meaningful tips as regards to producing quality contents. Unfortunately, I had copied my master key and though I highlighted the discord link, it just occurred to me that I didn’t properly copy it. So basically, I ended up hyperlinking my master key thinking it was the discord link.
Literally 5 seconds later, my account was stolen. By @chumah. I was careless. I take full responsibility but I’ll use this post to enlighten users on why you should never use your master key online.
Your private posting key is used to log in and upvote as well as comment. Your active key is used to carry out wallet transactions. Your public posting key is used to join voting trails. Don’t give out your posting and active keys at any instance. Your master key should be written down or printed and saved on paper and doesn’t necessarily have to used for safety purposes. You can’t even trust your email not to be hacked. To get these keys. Simply go to “wallet” and then “permission” and you’ll see all these keys.
It’s really difficult for me to come at @chumah as it’s my fault but beware of this fraud. He sends all the stolen SBDs and steem to @MrJulz777 whose wallet transactions are questionable.
The images below will give you an insight into his fraudulent activities.
I’m not the first to fall victim to these rentboys but hopefully, I’ll be the last.
Please resteem and upvote to give this a lot of visibility. Bring these frauds to justice.
Thanks to @MathsOwl, @dexterdev, @samminator, @katerinaramm, @steepup, @saho, @JustTryMe90 and the steemstem community for the moral support shown during these difficult times.
Together we stand !
The phishing scam that is going on is huge. After I got hacked a little over a month ago I made it my ‘mission’ to bring awareness to the people.
I’ve written two guides on how to get your account and reputation score back, and 2 days ago I launched one with information on how people can protect themselves.
Since I only have 700 followers, reach is limited. That’s why I set up a contest in which I ask people to post an article on their blog about the phishing scam and how people can stay safe.
I figured that if 10 people write a blog post, the message would reach all 10 followers bases, instead of only mine.
The problem is too big to ignore, and the word needs to get out.
Since you have first-hand experience, I thought that maybe you would be prepared to join our forces and try to reach and protect as many people as possible.

We are excited to see you join us here! Steemit is a remarkable platform that is built to reward users for creating quality content. Its a logic called proof of brain.
As for TechChat, think of us as DJs that create tech content instead of music. We create content by looking for the most shocking, interesting, and exciting breakthroughs in the tech space. Basically - we do all the research so you dont have to.
We hope to hear your opinion on TechChat’s content! We always love to hear from our community.

It's well mates ,those dudes are thieves ,nemesis will catch up with them one day.
Thank you man
So in case this happens again or if it happens to anyone in the future, you can recover an account within 30 days of the master password being changed by contacting your recovery account holder (use the link here if your recovery account is @steemit)
Just for future reference, if you do something like this again by accident that to be fast. Anyways, glad to see you coming back!
Thank you man. I’ll keep that in mind
What is this recovery account holder? I registered in the usual fashion. And used steeminvite for my friend.
So the recovery account can be used to make a new password on your account and "Challenge Owner" if someone steals your account. In most cases it cannot be used to steal someones account (as someone would need to have the recovery account) and it takes 30 days to change a recovery account.
This isn't very in depth but if you have more specific questions I might be able to help.
