How did this whole trip come about? Do most people just decide on a whim... hmmm I'm going to leave with a suitcase with a one way plane ticket and wander around aimlessly until I go broke or bored and go home? Everyone must have there reasons and there stories. What compelled them to make the decision to go on an adventure of a life time right? Well here's mine.
I've always been an avid traveler. Usually I try to take 1 or 2 international trips a year to satisfy my wanderlust. These trips consists of 3 weeks of hopping around a country or a few countries with lists of things I want to do and then going home to relive it in my photos. But this... this was my first but probably not last long adventure with no set plans really just going with the flow and following where my heart guided me.
Originally I had a round trip airfare to Thailand for November. Its been a bucket list item of mine to go to Chiang Mai in Thailand and watch the floating lanterns dance across the sky during Loy Krathong festival in November. So this year that was going to be my one major trip to make it happen.
Then I went out on a Saturday, just like any other Saturday... grab some drink have some fun conversations... laugh ... call it a night... But then I met a friend who told me he was going to the Philippines in December and was trying to convince me to go with him. Before this I had no interest in the Philippines I already had my trip for the year it was all good. Then he showed me an amazing video of a trip in the Philippines. The whale sharks! The Blue water! The Adventure!! I wanted to go to create my own video! I felt so inspired. But what kind of job would give me 2 months off of work to travel. Here comes in my friend Monica who I literally just met... well this second... And she was like... you're a contractor just go! Well... when the universe gives you all the signs to go and a Monica tells you to go... who am I to argue against it right??? So now I was going to Asia for 2 months!!! Whew exciting....
Fast forward one more week, my friend Dan convinces me to come with him on a volunteer Trek though Nepal in March. I could NOT miss out on this... If I'm already quitting my job and going on an epic trip why not make it even more EPIC!
And that's how I packed up my bags in SF and decided on a 6 month trip Across Asia and Australia. It was filled with some of the most beautiful scenery and amazing people in my life. I'm so glad I had this experience. Happy to share it with you all!
