Hello Steemit, I'm Marko and I'm from Serbia. Although I don't like to take photos of myself, I'll do it this time for this special occasion.
Now, something about myself... I'm a astrophysics student, currently engaged in projects regarding galaxy evolution and growth of galaxies through accretion of dark matter. I am a cat lover, I enjoy trying new beers, watching old non-English movies and I love sports (but i won't write sports related articles).
I spent countless nights wandering through Wikipedia, reading completely unrelated articles and collecting useless knowledge, and I'm looking forward to share some interesting stories with you guys.
I identify myself as a extreme introvert and I have always had problems in social interaction with humans (that's why I like cats probably), but I also consider myself full of thoughts and can't wait to start sharing them with the community. I believe that's going to be the biggest reward of all.
My username is Laniakea, and if some of you are confused what is it there is the answer
So, Laniakea is galaxy-supercluster, home of the Milky Way and 100000 other galaxies. The name Laniakea means 'immense heaven' in Hawaiian, from lani, meaning 'heaven', and akea, meaning 'immeasurable'.
My profile picture is 'Pale Blue Dot'. It's actually photo of planet Earth taken in 1990, with Voyager 1 space probe, from a record distance of 6 billions kilometers. This photo makes me feel so small and unimportant, but also makes me feel grateful for this life and this planet where we are living, and is the main reason why my life has taken this path and why my personality is what it is.
I will write about space, science, unknown beautiful places, events and great people you have never heard of and everything else that comes up on my mind.
I hope this is going to be pleasant experience :)
Wellcome to steemit

The view of the Galaxy makes our Solar System seem small, which is kind of weird to say for me. This photo of Laniakea makes our Galaxy seem small.
What are those streaks of light on the photo? I don't see the Earth on it at all. Didn't Voyager take any pictures before it got so far away?
Those light streaks are result of sunlight reflection within the camera. If you look closely at the rightest light streak, you will see small dot, well, that's Earth :) really small
This is the last picture taken by Voyager, as it was approaching Pluto.
