Studying as an idealistic person

Hey everyone!

This is my first post on steemit and I am kind of nervous. I decided to support and explore steemit and become part of the steemworld.
Guess, it's time to tell a little more about myself.

I am a German student on Forensic Science. Currently, I am in the fifth semester, things are getting serious now! In about one year, I will graduate as a Bachelor!
I really love my subject - it is all about chemistry, physics and material science. I started with the idea of forensic science as it is described in all the crime series... guess, I had watched too many of them :-)

While rushing through basic information about biology, DNA sequencing and analysis, chemistry and a whole bunch of physics, I realised that forensic science is a looot more than just CSI. Now I am crazy about materials like polymers and how they behave, crazy about destroying things to look how the damage areas would look like. In the picture below, you can see an example of the beauty of such damages - looked at under a light microscope with phase contrast.

Although I have the chance to choose some elective courses, I still have to pass an exam on every topic - by the way, I am really not the biology-type-girl, so this means a lot of studying, reading books and kind of leaving my comfort zone.

I started studying directly after getting my a-levels. Most of my fellow students have made experiences in apprenticeships. I didn't and so I came to the campus, all super positive and naiive...

As my title says, I am not only a student, I am also an idealistic person - guess, we all are when it comes to certain topics. My "raw point" is my personal freedom. When I get the feeling of not being allowed to be myself, I can get very raged!
One would think, studying is coupled to a lot of free choices - you are free to decide when to get up, if you really need to attend this annoying lecture about DNA in the morning or to choose starting with learning two days before the exam… Some of the choices you make may be followed by consequences you might have not been thinking of.
I experienced this freedom as very attractive. At first, I was really overwhelmed and did not know how to use my new power - and totally failed the first exams… But as soon as I realised, that it is only myself who is responsible for that (unlike to the school system, where you always can blame the teacher…), I started to change my way of thinking.
As freedom is an important thing for me, I tend to get emotional when someone enters my personal bubble and tries to destroy it. In my time at university, I am facing many of these situations and I want to share them with you.

I am so excited to become part of this community!!
