Pues apenas se marcha el sol, aparece el relámpago del Catatumbo como un faro intermitente para devolver en cada ráfaga los trozos de paisajes arrebatados por la noche.
Hello Steemianos! My name is Marcelo Antonio Morán Polanco. I was born in Zulia state; the most marvelous region in the world. Where an indigenous Virgin reigns called the Chinita, where the darkness does not come down. For as soon as the sun goes out, Catatumbo's lightning appears as an intermittent beacon to return in each burst the fragments of landscapes snatched at night.
Pertenezco al pueblo amerindio wayuu, que mora sobre el extremo septentrional del Zulia conocido como la península Guajira. En mi tierra hay un lago que almacena la reserva de agua dulce más grande de Suramérica de donde no solo brotó el petróleo sino el nombre Venezuela.
I belong to the Wayuu Amerindian people, who dwell on the northern tip of Zulia known as the Guajira peninsula. In my land there is a lake that stores the largest freshwater reserve in South America, from where not only oil sprouted but also the name Venezuela.
Como buen zuliano, aprendí de mi padre a tocar el cuatro, y con ello a cantar y componer gaitas; un ritmo que encadena Venezuela en la época decembrina.
Estoy casado con Zulay Margarita Marcano y tengo cuatro hijos, Marcell, Mitchell, Manuel y Marcelo Andrés. Soy cronista desde mi adolescencia y he trabajado en la mayoría de los diarios impresos de la región como dibujante. Diario Crítica, Diario La Columna, Diario El Regional del Zulia, Semanario El Muérgano y Semanario Heraldo de Maracaibo.
He participado en dos exposiciones de pintura colectivas y dos individuales. Tengo un libro publicado y tres por publicar. Así mismo he sido colaborador de portales de arte y cultura en Venezuela y del Diario Córdoba, de la provincia de Córdoba, España.
As a good Zulian, I learned from my father to play the cuatro, and with that to sing and compose bagpipes; a rhythm that chains Venezuela in the holiday season.
I am married to Zulay Margarita Marcano and I have four children, Marcell, Mitchell, Manuel and Marcelo Andrés. I have been a chronicler since my adolescence and have worked in most of the printed newspapers of the region as a draftsman. Critical Journal, La Columna Newspaper, El Zulia Regional Newspaper, El Muérgano Weekly and Heraldo de Maracaibo Weekly.
I have participated in two collective painting exhibitions and two individual exhibitions. I have one book published and three to publish. I have also been a collaborator of portals of art and culture in Venezuela and Diario Córdoba, in the province of Córdoba, Spain.
Me gusta escribir sobre los personajes de mi tierra que habitan en un mundo particular conocido como Realismo mágico en el que se pierde la frontera entre la realidad y los sueños. Allá en las sábanas desérticas de mi Guajira eso es posible. En las noches las estrellas lucen tan bajitas como si titilaran a un metro de altura y pudieran alcanzarse con un simple impulso de las manos.
I like to write about the characters of my land that inhabit a particular world known as magical Realism in which the border between reality and dreams is lost. There in the desert sheets of my Guajira that is possible. At night the stars look as short as if they shimmered a meter high and could be reached with a simple impulse of the hands.
En 2012 publiqué mi primera novela: Viaje a Santa Cruz de Wuinpumuin, relato de ficción sobre la Guajira y el lago de Maracaibo. En estos momentos tengo preparada la segunda edición, a la espera de patrocinio para editarla el próximo año.
In 2012 I published my first novel: Viaje a Santa Cruz de Wuinpumuin, a fiction story about Guajira and Lake Maracaibo. At this time I have prepared the second edition, waiting for sponsorship to be published next year.
En 2008 fundé el grupo gaitero Acero Musical, que ganó dos premios Mara de Oro con el tema Alitasía; dedicado a un hermoso paraje de mi Guajira que en 2014 me honró con el reconocimiento: Hijo Ilustre de Alitasía. Esta comunidad ancestral inspiró en1941 al Maestro Rómulo Gallegos para escribir su última novela de tema venezolanista: Sobre la misma tierra.
In 2008, I founded the piper group Musical Steel, which won two Mara de Oro awards with the theme Alitasía; dedicated to a beautiful place of my Guajira that in 2014 honored me with the recognition: Illustrious Son of Alitasía. This ancestral community inspired Maestro Rómulo Gallegos in 1941 to write his latest Venezuelan-themed novel: Sobre la tierra tierra.
