Hello Steemit community! Follow me on my travels and journey through life! Looking forward to exchange stories and ideas with you guys!

An inspiring friend of mine told me about this amazing social network only yesterday.  Straight away I loved the whole idea of quality content and interacting with open- like-minded people. Furthermore I also thought, that this could be just the right place to finally share some of my crazy stories, experiences and pictures of my travels.

My name is Marcel and I’ve been wandering on this planet for about 25 years now.  Grew up in a small town in Germany, surrounded by negative, simple and judgmental people  sheeps.

Always had some kind of feeling deep inside, that was eating me up slowly.

A feeling that there was more to life.

That there was more out there - waiting for me to take it.

Shortly before I turned 21, I couldn´t take it anymore. I quit my job, sold my car and gave up my beloved 90 sq m flat. Thinking back of how I sat in that Boeing 777 a few weeks later, on a one way ticket to Australia, with only a thousand Euros in my bank account still makes me laugh. Little did I know, that my life was about to get completely turned upside down – and not only because of the fact that the destination was Down Under.

I ended up meeting the most amazing people and making friends for life. Tried myself at various jobs, for example on a banana farm in over a hundred degrees Fahrenheit. Also ended up traveling through the most wild and amazing places in south-east Asia.

Fell in love with an awesome girl (who´s still my partner in crime) and with the city of Melbourne.

Been raving in the jungles of Thailand and the outback of Australia.

Drove motorbikes through the ridiculously stunning mountain areas of Cambodia, with more than just one guardian angel watching over me.

And don´t even get me started on those up to 20 metre  high cliffs I liked to jump from into the water.  In stressful times I often think back to that little Island on the Mekong river in Laos, with no own power supply or law enforcement.

But enough of that ostentation for now. If you guys would like to hear more of those stories, with more details and pictures, please let me know in the comments!

Currently I am living in Hamburg. A place that I absolutely hated at first, but came to adore after it showed it´s hidden beauty and craziness to me. Work wise, I´ve been in sales pretty much all my life. This started when I was about 5 years old and wanted to have a small stall on a local flea market. After I persuaded my dad to do this with me, I instantly started to develop a passion for sales. I love the interactions with all the different kinds of people and always try to give as much additional value besides of the product as possible. Right now I´m working in a store for higher class entertainment electronics like Bose and Sonos.

In my free time I love to work out, read and - who would´ve thought - travel. Keeping a healthy lifestyle and constantly working on myself are mandatory to me. But to keep that Ying and Yang in balance, I also need a proper Gin and Tonic and a rave every now and then. Besides of that I´m back at school and will go to Uni in a few months.

In the future I would love to bother you with more of my travel stories, but also with my world views and thoughts about the great mystery´s of life. Looking forward to share my stories and having a great time with you! Have a great start to the new week and keep rocking!

Oh my gosh you are LIVING! I LOVE this! You're inspiring me to get off my butt and figure out how to make some of my travel dreams a reality :) How have you managed to maintain financial security while traveling? That's my biggest fear. Followed as well! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts :)

Oh thank you so much, I´m flattered! If you are thinking about going traveling I can only highly encourage you to do so! It was the best decision of my life! Gave me so many new perspectives and brought so many amazing people into my life. Before I left my hometown, I was absolutely miserable. No wonder if you´re only surrounded by negative people and only seeing the same things everyday, if you ask me..

Had to laugh when I read your question about maintaining financial security. Not because it is not an important concern but because I just absolutely didn´t care at that moment. When the desire for change becomes so present - suddenly everything seems possible. I thought everything will work out. Today I would actually have the same concerns haha. It did all work out in the end, but let me tell I had some weeks in between those two years travelling, where I was really struggling. I was living in the back of the van of my good friend Leo for about 3 weeks, when I arrived in Melbourne. (You can read the prologue to that in my third Blog post which I uploaded the day before yesterday) Because I burned through my money once again and all the affordable hostels were overbooked. In the end he even got me a job and I found a really nice place to stay! About a year after that, I had a few weeks where I couldn´t pay the rent and was living off of instant noodles. :-D But my housemates helped me out with the rent, begiving that I will land on my feet once more. And those struggles made me even grow more and appreciate the little things.

Australia really is a great country for longer travels. Normally you can get a working visa and find work quite easily. You have to be willing to do shit jobs sometimes though.
If you want to dip your toes in the water first, I can highly recommend SE-Asia. You can book a one-way ticket and leave enough money for the flight back on some savings account. Once you are there, you just stay as long as your saved up money will take you. In 2013 1000$ per country lasted me about a whole month. Not luxury accommodations obviously but decent enough and lots of good food and drinks. ;-) By now, especially Thailand will probably be a bit more expensive, but 1500$ for traveling that country for about 3 weeks should be plenty and give you a higher standard than I used. It´s also a very beginner friendly country. If you want to stretch that travel out a bit you could go to Laos right after for a few weeks. It´s very relaxed and should still be very cheap. I loved Cambodia as well and it was also very cheap but it was definitely the most intense and craziest country I´ve ever been too.

Following you too now! Hit me up if you got any more questions and check out my other two Blog entry’s for some more inspiration ;-)

Thank you for all of this! You're right about the whole financial thing. It seems that everything always works out, even when it doesn't seem to be going that way, and there are others to support us along our journey. I actually traveled to Thailand/Cambodia and LOVED it and would love to return. I look forward to keeping in touch and reading more of your posts!

Welcome to Steemit dude! :)

As usual, connect, engage and contribute. :)

Following you and looking forward to learn more about you!

Cheers,

Thank you Sid mate!
Also following you now. I actually sell those Samsung QLED TV´s where I work. I like them and also fell in love with the remote instantly.
But at the moment I absolutely prefer the OLED TV´s from LG. The black is just so black, the colors as natural as possible and there is so much depth in the picture, especially with 4K material.

Welcome to steemit Marcel!

Thank you mate, much appreciated!

Glad you had a good time in Australia. It is pretty awesome.

It sure is!

Welcome to Steemit Wayne ;-)
