Philippines is blessed for being a tropical country with two distinct climate, the wet and dry season. There are parts in the country that experiences longer rainy days like the Bicol Region (my hometown), while other parts enjoy both sunny and rainy time of year. The most humid season falls in April and May, but starts in March, which are considered as summer months. During these season, people seek for places that would eliminate the heat brought by the scorching weather. If it is summer time here, there’s a place that will give you the feeling of relief from hot weather. This place is known to local tourists because of its cool climate even summer days for it is a city situated on top of stiff mountains with almost 5000 feet height above sea leavel. Let me introduce to you the City of Pines, BAGUIO CITY!
Ironically, this captivating place is very seldom visited by “bagyo” (a Filipino term for typhoon which is a homonym for the name of the place) so you’ll enjoy every minute in your stay here; let me tour you around.
Baguio is inhabited mostly by natives of Igorot whose culture and tradition are very much preserved. Most destinations here has a relationship with the arts and amazing way of living. Me and my friend first tracked to Tam-Awan Village where someone can appreciate the beauty of man-nature relationship. This is a wonderful place to interact with nature and masterpieces of local painters there. You’ll also see stores that trade the knitted or weaved products as one of the primary source of living of the natives. Just be strong enough to climb up and step down the area.
Another place which will make your heart jump for its promising topography is the BenCab Museum. A well renowned contemporary artist in the Philippines, Benedicto Reyes Cabrera owned the museum. You’ll find yourself speechless and surely cannot contain the bliss of reaching such astonishing garden surrounded by the refreshing sight of verdant mountains, bountiful farm, and of course the creation of the master, the paintings of BenCab. Once you hear the sound of your tummy, sumptuous meals are also served there.
Don’t let this next place be removed in your itenarary, the creepy but mesmerizing white-colored Lateral House. It is a very old residence which paint is already faded in its walls, but once you go inside, you’ll be able to depict the grand picture of ways of living of the family who once lived there. Furniture possesses intricate designs and the rooms in each floor seem mysterious. I remembered the reminders of the caretakers not to open the door in the uppermost room of the house. The experience was really mind-boggling but it was fun.
Within the vicinity, there is a Bamboo EcoPark and a gallery that displays the artworks made from the variety of bamboos. Check out the photo where bamboo is used as the main frame for a bicycle. There are also bamboo products with carvings. I found the items unique and innovative. It is also nice to know that there is a numerous kinds of bamboo plant and I got the chance to see them in their nursery.
Let me give you more from this lovely place. Another breath-taking experience is hanging around the Philippine Military Academy. Pleasant leafy sights will make you feel relaxed because of the Pine trees surrounding the place. Moreover, scenes inside the building will even make you love PMA. You’ll see there the life accounts of the brave Filipino soldiers and heroes during the Spanish era such as Gregorio Del Pilar up to the awarded modern gallant Filipino soldiers.
Finally when you’re done loitering around and need some souvenirs for your loved ones, you should not miss dropping by in their market which is really elevated. People do not only visit the market to buy some goods but to capture the heavenly place and take their best selfie. It is also a good idea to buy some fruits and vegetables because they are sold in a very cheap prices. Because of its cool climate, farmers grow their crops easily. There is no doubt that Baguio is one of the major producers of fruits and vegetables in Luzon.
I hope you enjoyed reading my story. Thanks for the time spent with me.
