RE: Kiss Me, I'm Irish (...by Deportation): My Hive Introduction

Oh hell yeah! Where are you from? I lived in Kilkenny for three months in the fall of 2003, and worked in Billy Byrnes' Pub and in Tall Stories Bookshop.

One night while traveling, a group of taxi drivers from Limerick bought me and a friend so many Guinnesses that we thought we were dying the next morning when we woke up in the hostel lol

Sort:

I worked in Mcdonagh Junction in Kilkenny myself up until last year. I was actually in Billy Byrnes last week. I love the little bus out the back. From Clonmel in Tipperary. Not too far from Kilkenny.

No shit. That's such a small world. I'm so glad Billy Byrnes is still there! I can't remember anyone's names, it's been too long - but is Mrs. Byrnes still here and with us? She was so damn great to work for. Her son, I barely knew him, but he was away working - I think abroad? - and that's how I landed the job, to fill in for him. But she was fantastic. She comped us a pint after every shift, and thought it was great fun that I asked to bank them all for special occasions.

There was also a gentlemen who came in for coffee every day, as he could no longer stomach alcohol, and he was a local artist of some renown. He drew a couple portraits of me, and I still have them - in fact, I'm looking at them rolled up right now!

I don't know Mrs Byrne personally but I have many friends in Kilkenny so I will ask them and get back to you. Kilkenny is a great spot for random nights like the one you mentioned. There is a pub called O Donnells beside Billy Brynes and I used to stay in a room there on the nights I would stay over and go out for drinks. It's a small world

Such a small world!! That's awesome, thank you man. Some day I'm going to get back over there. Lots of great memories. One of my last nights there we had a guy show up (we stayed open past hours that night) pretending to be an undercover policeman, and one of our regulars got so pissed at him he followed the man down the lane and across the bridge at 2 or 3 in the morning. I never knew what came of it. God those days were a blast.

There are alot of "undercover policemen" in pubs in Ireland that show up drunk and flash a badge of some description to get a free drink after hours. 😂. Chancers.

That's ... exactly how it went down 😂
I was shitting myself until everyone was like, no no no, yer man here is a FAKE!

😂😂. Ha. You should do a post about your time in Kilkenny.

Oooooooof I might be extradited 😜
Super idea though, I'll have to find and scan the pics!

My Kilkenny friend got back to me just there. Mrs Byrne pass away last year unfortunately @misterrogers .
