Hope and Despair – My Journey into the Abyss and Back

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Hi Steemians

Disclosure: This is NOT my first post on Steemit. However, it is my first article after 9 months. As the community has grown a lot since, I believe it would be appropriate to use it as a reintroduction. This post is based on my recent experiences.

How it all started

December 2016, I was working with a leading financial institution headquartered in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Abu Dhabi. A corner office in a corporate tower situated on a manmade island overlooking the Arabian sea was the best working space, I could hope for. It all came to an abrupt end.

I lost my job in a mass layoff and had to come back to my country. The bear cycle of my life had started (pun intended).
In a tight spot

I could not get an offer for 5 months despite multiple attempts. People whom I supported always and believed they will return the favour, started to break away. As financial issues started to crop up, friends turned in to acquittances, only to become a stranger later. It was like time travel, anticlockwise. Adding insult to injury, I dislocated my shoulder bone in an accident.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

I had some investments in Bitcoin and started trading actively in altcoins which resulted in decent profits thanks to the bull market last year.

Shit hits the fan

Life still had few surprises in store for me. I had multiple eye surgeries between 2010 to 2012 due to retinal detachment in my right eye, resulting in partial damage to the vision. However, the problem resurfaced with a new name (increased eye pressure) this time. I was advised by doctor to go for another surgery.

No job, an injury and a surgery now, I was being fucked without Vaseline.

I had to use my little leftover funds to pay the hospital bills. It took around 4 months for me to recover and start again. 2017 started with a straight jab on the nose and ended with an uppercut on the chin, leaving me reeling with pain.

Conclusion

I have resumed my trading work since February and doing better on my health. A year of scarcity taught me more than what I learned in seven years of abundance and good fortune. I feel better and stronger; physically, emotionally and spiritually. The heaviness of being successful is replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again. I value money and well-being far more than what I used to.

The key takeaway is, that life is like a symphony. It goes up and down in a perfect rhythm but sometimes, the whole orchestra comes crashing down for no fault of yours. All you need to do is to fix it and play again; only better this time.

From now on, I will try to remain active on Steemit and contribute to this wonderful society. I will also be publishing my technical analysis for BTC and Altcoins soon. If you trade in crypto, follow me @mohit18jan for some great TA’s to multiply your holdings. I won’t promise you moon but would surely help you navigate the cosmos.

Thanks for reading. I’m grateful for your time. Do share your thoughts and experiences in comments.
