Hello there citizens of Steemit!
I thought I would take the time to introduce myself, what I will be writing about and most importantly find out what you guys want to read about!
It's funny, through my work I write upwards of 10,000 words a day I'm so keen to make first impressions count that I've written, edited, rewritten this countless times over and we're only on the third paragraph; this is going well!
My name is Molly Birchmore and I have been travelling since the age of 16. Having ticked off 31 countries already I have no desire to slow down. My adventures have seen me rescue a baby elephant in Sumatra, sleep on the streets of Hong Kong and be serenaded by Iceland's biggest rock star on my 21st birthday!
Half British, half Irish, I call Nepal home…for now. Home is where my dogs are and that’s all that counts!
From the harrowingly sad to the overwhelmingly happy, this weird and wonderful life I have stumbled into has created more anecdotes that I can keep a track of. As I read once 'she's seen more than she remembers and she remembers more than she has seen' and it seems all too appropriate to me.
I am a wanderer, a gypsy, a nelipot nomad, I doubt that wanderlust will ever loosen its grip on my being and I couldn't be happier at the thought!
Wildlife, Community and Conservation
I have for as long as I can remember been passionate about wildlife, nature and the wonderful (nearly ruined) world we live in. Perhaps this was due to being the daughter of farmers, growing up in the rural Cotswold or having a kick-ass Granny who throughout my childhood sent me postcards from every corner of the planet.
I won’t bore you with the ins and outs of my conservation work in this post; I am still seeking a way to shorten the story down but alas, there’s not short way to describe a journey that took me through the Sonepur Mela in India to Nepal and to the back of beyond in Banda Aceh, Indonesia.
I’m a firm believer in the principal ‘save one, save the species’. It’s mantras like these that are the key to keeping motivation high when the headlines deliver yet more grim news.
In short, I am excited about what 2018 will bring, to share what I learn with the Steemit Community and I am determined that it will be our most successful year to date.
In what will be the Chinese Year of the Dog our focus will be dogs, cows and, of course, elephants.
Digital Nomad
At the beginning of 2017, I was in a real quandary, I had moved to Nepal with next to no money in the August previous and it has soon run out. My promised ‘handsome stripe-end’ never appeared and I was faced with the decision of either heading back to the UK (back to a life of waitressing, binge-drinking cider and playing Cards Against Humanity) or making a life for myself, generating my own income and being as self-sufficient as possible.
As you’ve probably guessed, I chose the latter. With a hell of a lot of work and even more anxiety, I put my word-riddled brain into action and established myself as a freelance writer.
My first job was writing product descriptions for e-cigarettes for 50¢ a piece. I didn’t care, it was a step in the right direction.
Over the past six months I’ve (somehow!) managed to create a myself a decent stream of income as a writer. I genuinely surprised myself as to how do-able it was.
Although I’m far from earning big bucks being able to charge just $30 an hour is enough to get us by. We don't need more.
I’m always juggling three projects and my clients are incredibly understanding as to my travel schedule and that at times my conservation work takes me offline for up to a week.
Much of my work is orientated around travel and I been penning a series of articles about the transition from 9-5 office worker to digital nomad.
Is this something the Steemit community would be interested in reading about?
What I love about digital nomads is that there is no conventional route, we can all learn from each other in this ever-evolving era of location independence.
Fellow Digital Nomads, how did you do it? Have you got any tips for little old me?!
I’ve worked out of a ruin of an elephant camp in Aceh, in the back of our Ford Territory in New Zealand and on a rock in Bako National Park in Borneo! The world is my office!
So that’s me, little ole’ MolB, the Nelipot Nomad. Do follow me if you want to learn about conservation, sustainable living and life as a digital nomad.
Remember to vote for this post to help me kick start my place in the world of crypto-currency
