I have been walking the paths of this web 3.0 hive for couple of weeks. Came across several bots, but one in particular caught my interest. The @lovesniper bot, who I watched travel these paths curating self introduction posts. Along with letting others know that such a post was a good idea.
A simple introduction would be "Hello my name is Luke, what is yours?" Of course we could get a bit more with "Hello my name is Luke Hudson". Both of these are fine in the real world, can even be used to start a conversation? However for the digital world we want a bit more depth.
That is depth not beach, as my son hides behind me in that pic. Now for depth we could go into my schooling (not near enough), my work history (not really interesting enough other then the short stint of writing for 50k Music Magazine), or my multiple personality disorder caused by web 2.0 (how many usernames does one need anyways?). So rather then introducing Luke I decided to introduce Netvalar who retired in 2011 (last actual writing was Jan 2012).
I am old and decrepit some of the time frames mentioned below may be off by a century er not that old make that a decade, hmm maybe not that far off.
Netvalar was born in 2004 on Myspace. (Luke was born in 1969 on USA soil.) We will skip the being pushed, pulled, shanghaied, etc into becoming a social marketing advice writer for independent musicians. (No matter how hard I explained I knew little to nothing about social marketing at the time.) Self proclaimed researcher extraordinaire (musicians asked questions I used Alta Vista to find answers.)
If you followed the link above for Luke Hudson you saw one of my early Netvalar bios. It was still early days of web 2.0 and many of us had dreams of what the future would bring. As corporations began buying up smaller web 2.0 companies the tools slowly disappeared or changed. The dream Netvalar had of fans and content creators working together fell to the way side of centralized profits. During the time between 2006 and 2011 I participated in many early project ideas honestly these had a 70% + failure rate. However a few were great successes, couple of them are even still around.
I was interviewed 3 times in 2007 and 2008, so to add more depth I scoured cyberspace for them. I was only able to find 1 and that was by using the way back machine. At the time I disagreed with much of what was thought of myself (read I was not nor ever became a social marketer.) So I proclaimed Netvalar as a myth, legend, rumor that floated throughout cyberspace. Some of that came from my out of the box thinking (example below).
Sellaband once proclaimed to be the 1st crowdfunding site. Netvalar decided that facts were worth researching and found artist share started in the late 90s long before 2006. However where did crowdfunding really start? I decided this was a good question and went outside of the box. During the renaissance age the wealthy and titled would sponsor artists, music troupes, etc. This then to me was an early crowdfunding and I started using the term sponsorship. Of course that is what crowdfunding really is today. But in 2006 music fans could help with funding and promoting in exchange for a share of an albums royalties. Great idea that fell to the wayside of corporate profit ideology.
That should give one a fairly good idea of where Netvalar has been, and a basis to my thoughts about what web 2.0 could have been. So now back to Luke who was minding his own business. When pow I stumbled across P2E gaming. Great idea where did it come from was the question I asked myself. Blockchain isn't that just crypto currency? Well off to research something new YEA!
I am amazed at how far blockchain has come in the last decade or so. One of the early projects I came across was "The Internet Computer". Along that path was the hive blockchain/community. I am still looking and who knows what part of history will spark inside my brain. Maybe the roman empire to show the many DAOs and how they work together while remaining apart?
Looks like I need to dig up one of my other banners for Netvalar, don't like that size.
Lets look briefly into the potential future. I will probably dig out my free reports for musicians from web 2.0 era. Update them, polish them, etc. then decide what is worth posting here without the musician focus. I am obviously still looking into this new world of web 3.0. So you can expect a post here and there regarding this wonderful subject.
Regarding Hive I plan to start my own snowball, just a speck right now. Continue to read and curate the great information you all share. Speaking of curate I wanted to draw attention to a post that brought back memories of what web 2.0 could have been to me.

Due to the size that was designed to be a website header. Back in 2007 or maybe 2008 I met a student of graphic design. He agreed to look over several of my online profiles and do some graphics if I used them as examples of what he could so that maybe a project or 2 could be used to start his portfolio. It didn't take long for someone to contact me to get in touch with him, alas he thought it was a practical joke due to the potential client was nationally known. After that I told him I wouldn't try anymore and offered to delete his work from my system. He told I tried and to keep the graphics.
Moral of the story even if the president of some country contacts you for a job at least think about it being true.
