Hi Steemit, I'm NoSugar.
I'm a user that has noticed a lot of Steemians upvoting and commenting on content, giving them praise for work that is nothing more than a shitpost at best. The problem here is that people are afraid to give their honest opinions on the subject and content being produced in fear of not getting followers, upvotes, or, even worse, getting flagged.
I realize that there are some people out there that aren't afraid to speak their mind at all, but the majority fabricate sincerity or don't say anything at all. Complimenting a post with a objectively terrible set of photos or with a story that's poorly written isn't going to benefit anyone or the community. There's no improvement to be had from comments that hold no meaning or purpose, such as, 'Nice post' and 'Please follow and upvote'.
As a community, we should try to create original and genuine content that could potentially generate an organic following and/or approval, rather than doing it only for personal gain, whether that's SBD, SP or followers.
The way things are, in order to get featured at the top of the 'Trending' or 'Hot' page all you have to do is either already have a massive following or pump upwards of 20 SBD into a bidbot. This only perpetuates the continuous presence of poor posts that tarnishes Steemit's reputation for curating quality content. Furthermore, it makes it extremely difficult for a minnow with original ideas to be noticed and rewarded for their work.
What I want to achieve and be able to do is to have an unedited and unfiltered interaction with the community. The idea here is to respond to a user without a sugar-coating and to give constructive criticism where improvement is to be had. A lot of users tend to express their feelings about other people's self promotion and spamming in a post, rather than directly addressing the guilty parties first hand. Although my comments may sometimes come across as me being a dick, know that they are brutally honest and as constructive as can be. I feel people need to know when they're merely taking up space and not contributing in any way to benefit Steemit.
It's a harsh reality but someone has to do it. I'm willing to take one for the team by suffering the barrage of flags I may receive in expressing what I feel is the voice of many other users.
I promise to be as objective as possible without abusing my anonymity and leaving hurtful comments just for the sake of being an asshole. I will attempt to be Steemit's unbiased and partisan social justice superhero we all want and need.
So do your best and wish you'll never see my name pop up on your post's comments section, for I bring a ruthless wrath in my wake --insert evil laugh here--
Sincerely,
NoSugar
I think you're right in part, but once you starting hitting the 60+ rep users you'll see that 90% of them are producing good content. People who're lazy and take shortcuts aren't happy with their megre payouts and leave quickly... only people interested in actually producing good content stick around long enough to do well :)
Agreed and that is awesome. May we continue to rise and compete. And others come and go and that is life and we all can and should be able to exercise some choices, some freedoms, even in posting content and like beauty, the quality and the value of content is maybe to some extent and in some ways dependent and in the eye of the beholder.
Steemit isn't about subjective thoughts on our own work, it's meant to be as objective as possible, but with the current abuse of bidbots it's allowing those with bigger wallets to dictate the top of Trending and Hot pages.
You hate capitalism? Some people have bigger wallets. That is life. Some have a lot of bots working for them. Call it fair or not. But the world is full of all kinds of people including good and bad people. And Steemit will not be exempt from good and bad people and rich and poor people. Should we cry until everybody has the same amount of bots or no bots and wallets and everything? What is objective and what is subjective? Christians base their objectivity on their God. That is one way to do it. @Stefan.Molyneux talks about objectivity as well. And philosophy can help people understand objectivity. But it is still tough for some people to understand and to get to. Some people have less IQ and EQ. And some people like to post their OATMEAL haha.
I agree, but I feel like we still have people producing shit content on the regular and are getting significant payouts and comments praising them on their work.
Most of those who are now over 60 started earlier on when there was still a general honest intent to produce great content. They got to where they are now thanks to consistency and effort. But now bots have become more popular and it's helping noobs and spammers get all the reward.
I'd say 95% of the reward pool goes to those 60+... spamming is a huge problem but again, this doesn't matter if payout isn't the prime incentive!
Agreed, too much bs clogging the network. Making in slower and less appealing for new users! What do you suggest we'd do about it?
But at least the BS is here instead of just on Facebook right?
What do you mean by that? ...are you trying to be sarcastic? Are you saying that because there is bullshit on both platforms that it makes it okay?
Do you believe in Star Trek Utopia, in some kind of Minority Report future where we can regulate and control people so much in order to stop BS and stuff like free speech if we disagree with the free speech like what they did in Robo-Cop? If you don't let them do it here, they will just stay on Facebook. Should we have Speech Prohibition as they have done with drug prohibition and sex prohibition and alcohol prohibition, etc?
What can we do? You can only do what you do and some follow and some do not but that is capitalism and life and life is all about choices and some choose better and some decide poorly into doing BS like you said and that happens for a bunch of reasons like IQ reasons and out of habit or desire to be popular and to make money and more. For more info, talk to @Stefan.Molyneux. Thanks. I'm Oatmeal, haha.
I feel like you're going off on your own little tangent here and digressing from the matter at hand.
Your hijacking of all the comments on the post aren't serving any purpose. And who the hell is Stefan.molyneux?
I asked a question and you are ignoring my question. I am asking about what we can do. The world is full of problems. We can cry or we can take action and make good content and focus on that.
We can stop glorifying posts that don't deserve as much attention as they get and leaving nice comments just for the sake of getting our names out there. Instead, we can give constructive criticism when it's needed to help benefit the author and strengthen the community.
I promote a lot of great people. I am full of purpose. I love to hijack. Haha.
You seem to look remarkably like old grumpycat. And I hear you on what you have said, it gets boring trying to bite your tongue at some of the garbage that is so called "trending".
Agreed, what may be trending may not always be the greatest and what is the greatest may not be trending. That reminds me of something I heard as a kid, that what is popular may not always be good and what is good may not always be popular.
You mean like the world we live in now? idiots vote for people to tax them, and the same idiots all work the same jobs, and pay tax, and the drones watch the kardashians or what ever they are called yes? I left that world behind, it stinks there.
Bernie Sanders has body guards but told kids they can NOT have protection, security, bod guards, like he has, and the kids were like yeah yeah yeah.
It does and that's why I took it upon myself to call those users out. Biting your tongue isn't giving others the opportunity to know when they're producing less than quality content.
And as for my looks, it's just an image representing how I feel regarding what I've been seeing lately.
No Sugar Versus Annoying Orange Versus Oscar the Grouch
I think we are both here for the same thing, business posts everywhere, don't get me wrong, money is good but where is the humanity in all this.
People upvoting and commenting to get the upvotees attention, sad and cold. Money, money, money.! I'll be on my way now........Remain blunt @nosugar
Agreed that the love of money, and not money itself, can be and can become, potentially, the root of some evil or maybe all evil or something that is too problematic, distracting, and more.
Your post sucked and had no sugar, haha. Just kidding. Hey there Cat Man No Sugar Person, I'm Oatmeal Joey Arnold, and totally agree that this tends to happen too much like you said with the lack of character, transparency, honesty, and more, and there are reasons for that and we can always do better and I should probably make a post of my own about that.
I've flagged this post as you've linked to a video not pertaining to this post.

I can't wait to read your comments!!
agreed
Welcome to steemit, looking forward to seeing you around @chessmasterhex.
In real life, it's extremely hard for minnows to get noticed too. Creating good content isn't enough in real life, or on Steemit. It takes time, tenacity, building relationships and networking. That being said, the bots suck, and make it easy for low effort content to rise to the top...
agreed
Totally agree with the clutter. It's been really tiring going through a lot of garbage "new" posts as a new user on Steemit. Coincidentally I posted about it a couple days ago here.
If any of you have any tips on gaining traction do share. I saw a post about liking 200+ posts, following xx people, but it's really hard to find quality content that I am interested in, amongst all the clutter.
