Welcome! I love Jamaica - where are you staying? I can give you a couple of cool places to check out that are off the beaten/touristy path if you're interested.
Also, what kind of software do you write? I'd like to learn C/C++ but not sure if I can pick it up. I'm getting to be an "old dog" so not sure if I can learn that "new trick".

Negril is my favorite place in Jamaica, you'll have a blast. We stay at Nirvana On The Beach when we go to Negril.
Definitely plan a day away from the resort and hire a driver - we use Michael as our driver (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g147313-d5996794-Reviews-Jamaica_Hidden_Treasures_Vacations_and_Tours-Negril_Westmoreland_Parish_Jamaica.html) . He is very safe, clean-cut, and affordable.
The Ys Falls is a little touristy, but worth a trip.
If you explore anywhere in Negril, Floyd's Pelican Bar is an unforgettable experience. Call ahead and you can reserve a tasty lobster dinner at a very fair price.
