It is kind of crazy, just like a lot of other things here on Steemit. Part of Steemit is simply a popularity contest (like many things in life) and once you've won that, any post you share gains a lot of value. I'm sure this example is because of a few things though. It won't just be about looks (though that's surely part of it, we can't get around that in today's world...). Her pictures are generally of good quality and people seem to like the travel posts.
Looking at the Trending posts, it all seems a bit weird though and I choose to ignore that part of Steemit a lot. There aren't a lot of posts there that I find very interesting (some are just way too technical for me, some I just don't understand why they earn so much), so I'm sticking to the people I follow. It's a nice community, so it's worth it to look past the popularity contest part :-)
