How I Came Across Steemit - Short Biography

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

I joined Steemit few days back during the Christmas festive period but was so reluctant to write any post because I wanted to settle down before I could proceed. Thanks to @estheromoyiwola who introduced and convinced me to join Steemit.

Steemit is not strange to me though, I came across Steemit when I was writing an article for a client on Cryptocurrency. I love what I read about Steemit on it's content creation but never made attempt to try it out.

Biography

I am Damilola Omoyiwola, born in Lagos, Nigeria but raised by my grandparents in the Northern and Middle part of Nigeria. Well, I would say I was brought up in the interior villages where civilization was lagging. My grandparents were source of inspiration to me regarding hardworking. They taught me how to multitask- how to engage in many works at a time and still deliver. After I completed my Secondary school, I left my village for city to study Computer Engineering in one of the best schools in Nigeria; University of Benin, Benin City.

Why Computer Engineering?
Till today, I still don't understand the mystery of my desire for technology. I never knew what a computer was till I got to my 100 level. There was no bit of encouragement from my family members, they never wanted me to study Computer Engineering. Their belief was that everybody knows how to press computer keyboard.
I knew I'm hardworking, inventive and imaginative, I could not have gone for Medicine or other courses, so I stuck with Engineering. I love calculations and practicalizing things a lot. Above all, I love to solve problems.

...A different Profession

Don't mind me, this was during my compulsory National Youth Service Corps

Waoh, I thought it was only Engineering I like, I found out I like Military too. People tell me that I walk like a soldier and I have the physique, I had a thought of it but became afraid of it because of what it entails. Seriously, I can't kill and I don't wanna get killed. I love the job of CIA, FBI, DSS, Soldier etc. I think I can do these jobs but Nigerians' mentality of a lady going into these professions is very absurd.

A Software Developer
After I graduated and completed the compulsory National Service, I became an Android Developer certified by Google in less than 4 months. It was tough for me learning as a beginner and also as an intermediate learner with Udacity. I have experience in some programming languages while I was in school but not Java that would aid my Android learning. Though my experience in C and C# languages sped up my Java learning.
While in school, I learnt some basics of building a website, built some devices using embedded system.

Journey of becoming an Entrepreneur...

Pitching my idea

I'm not so good at business unlike my sister who could sell me in the market...
Recently, the company I work for as an Android Developer, organized an event - Startup Weekend supported by Google, I pitched an idea of a platform called Budgetier to plan and budget events which was accepted. That resulted to building a startup and will soon be launched. I never saw this coming but I had no choice than to take my fate as an Entrepreneur.

Aside Coding
Just of recent, I got myself in technical writing and UI/UX designs.
These I never knew I could get involved in them. I never liked English Language when I was in school, I don't speak too much of grammar but could put meaningful words together. Now, I love writing especially technology related articles.
Well, I can't say whether I'm gifted in designs but I used to do graphics designs in school and of lately, I started learning UI/UX designs which I'm in love with it.

Things I love to do...

Watching and Playing Football
I'm a full time football fan. Real Madrid is my favorite club, I love the team. Aside RM, I love some players like Lionel Messi, Neymar, James Rodríguez et al.
I grew up in the midst of boys, so I had no choice than to play football with them. I fell in love with it, I could forfeit my food to watch it. I play PES sometimes with my colleagues. I can't wait to watch the 2018 World Cup...

Indoor Games
I love games like Monopoly, Ludo board game, Whot etc. I'm still trying my best to learn Chess, though it's full of thinking and tactics, time demanding and thinking.

Love Watching Movie
Movie is an visual communication to portray the reality but acted with some film tricks to make it lively, enjoyable and interesting to watch. Movies are full of excitement and entertainment.
I'm so addicted to watching movies especially Hollywood movies that have the following genre; War, Epic, Crime, Action, Sci-fi and sort of. I love Bollywood and Telenova movies too. I create time to watch movies to free myself off stress and to laugh.
I could remember some years ago when I was watching 24 series, I skipped my sleep and food to watch the film. That's the extent of my love for movies.

Music
Music is a very powerful form of art. It's full of entertainment.
I love listening to music coupled with dancing. I can't do without listening to music and dancing along with it. Why do I dance? I can't just do without moving or shaking my body. Also dancing could be a form of exercise. I could dance for 2 hours of non-stopping. I do this often to regulate my body fitness.

Doing Exercise
Like I said earlier, I like dancing as a form of exercise.
Exercise is good for the body to enhance or maintain physical fitness and overall health and wellness.

Above all these, I love praying to my creator and the utmost. I love God and He dwells in me. He directs my path and makes it straight and successful. Without Him, I wouldn't have been what I am today.
