Hello from Indonesia!

Hello everyone! I'm Banitama from Bali, Indonesia and this is my first post on Steemit.
I've been in cryptocurrency since 2014, but please don't imagine me as the guy who ride lambo on weekday vacation. In fact, I still ride my bicycle on my way to work. Why spend your money on cars while you could save it to buy more bitcoin?

Cycling aside, I want to share my story about how I got involved in cryptocurrency.

2012: Found Folding@home on the internet. Used my GTX 465 to fold, roasted the power supply. My first lesson of not buying another crappy PSU.

2013: Tried to make some bucks by folding by joining Folding@EVGA group. After a few WU I realized that they only give you a maximum of 120$ discount and you still have to buy the products from America. Not worth it as I barely have any money and it's more reasonable to buy second-hand graphic card locally.

2014: I continued to look for ways to monetize my computing power since paying additional electricity for one graphic card for 24 hour took a good portion of my monthly wage. This time, I found Curecoin and Foldingcoin (not sure which one I found first) and that lead me to Bitcoin and cryptotrading. Lost much when FOMOing several coins, but gained it back on scam cloud mining scheme.

2015: I spent my wage on more GPU (acquired two used XFX 7970). I also bought several new rig upgrades such as a new CPU, motherboard, and beefier PSU, partially funded with my crypto earnings. In the same year, I moved to a new workplace, providing me with more time and money.

2016: Finally, I had to retire both XFX7970 I've bought at 2016. As a replacement, I bought RX480 later that year. Had a blast dual-mining Ethereum and Sia/Decred that year, but changed it back to usual protein folding.

2017: Earlier that year, I swapped 2 of 3 of my RX480 to GTX1070 to increase my folding output. Luckily I swapped my GPUs just before the price skyrocketed. I also bought some riser to attach some GPU my dad bought. Yeah, I pulled him into crypto.

2018: I was lucky. I took some profit to buy new laptop, phone for me & my little brother. But I got too greedy and put back some BTC into alts - wrong move, actually. Now still waiting for the bags to recover. Meanwhile, I'm enrolled into master degree program of capital market study - I need to get serious on crypto to keep up with institutional trader.

That's my yearly recap of my journey to crypto. I hope that inspires you to work hard on your study, too.
See you on another article!

Hello rollingdice! Welcome to Steemit! Hope you'll like the community here. As a start, here are 5 tips that we believe will be helpful to you:

  1. Keep your passwords safe: Unlike conventional sites, Steemit has 4 types of passwords. Each offers varying degrees of access to your account, so know where and when to use each of them. Also, make sure to keep them all safe and secure.
  2. Get Steem rewards: When writing a post, you'll have the option to choose how to receive your reward: "Default 50%/50%" or "Power Up 100%". As of this moment, choosing Default 50%/50% is the better option. But this can change over time. Check our post to know more.
  3. Upvote wisely: When upvoting, wait at least 30 minutes after the post is published to maximize your curation reward. Also, make sure not to upvote too much too fast so as not to drain your voting power.
  4. Know your Steem, Steem Dollars and Steem Power: Steem and Steem Dollars are the 2 main currencies here. Convert and power up more Steem into Steem Power so you can have higher values on your upvotes.
  5. Have Fun and Enjoy!
