Hey! As my first story, I am supposed to just introduce myself here but I also want to talk about why and how did I land here?
First things first though, I am a 21-year-old final year undergrad currently pursuing civil engineering in one of the colleges in India.
As the final year began(just a few months ago), strange vibes crept into the atmosphere of our class. The look on the faces of my classmates wore a sense of worry as opposed to the warm welcoming smile usually to be seen at the beginning of the semester.
As I was trying to figure out the cause of this strained look, just before the onset of my first class - it dawned upon me!!
It was time to answer the one question every undergrad has to answer regardless of their stream, college or university.
WHAT NEXT??? - A Job or A Masters or the MBA.
At first, it was an outright decision for me - MBA. Why? - Well, the method of elimination.
I didn't want to do Masters because 4 years of Civil engineering had itself taken a toll on me. And as far as a job is concerned, the salary I would end up getting now would be pennies on the dollars that I spent on my college fees.
So, MBA seemed to fit in right. Except when I carried on the method of elimination further, assuming the existence of a fourth option(my own startup), I felt that even MBA was something I really didn't want to do.
The notion or the decision of not doing an MBA was not clear in my mind at the time(in fact it still isn't). But I said to myself that if I were to make a decision then I would have to put up a firm fourth option challenging the MBA and then weigh both of theirs pros and cons.
I had been working on an idea sporadically throughout my first 3 years but the burden of college work wouldn't allow me to take a big leap or even a gentle stride towards any significant progress on it. I had to make a proper business plan, set short term goals and envision a worst case scenario and a way to come out of it unscathed.
Although I was done with all this in about a couple of weeks(a novice level plan), there was still one thing to tackle - how would I pay for my expenses for the year?
I had a faint idea about the ability to work online and earn money but my understanding of the same was limited to making Youtube videos and earning ad-revenue. Although interesting, in one years time it wouldn't be sufficient to pay off my rent or any other expenditures I were to incur, I needed something concrete.
This is when I stumbled upon the videos of Jerry Banfield. He mainly spoke about putting courses online and compared all sites which allowed you to do so. I was intrigued by the returns you could get on making courses and was considering it as an option but shortly after I saw his video in which he compared his income through all the sites where I discovered the "Gold Mine" (that I consider) i.e Steemit.
Steemit acts as a big rock that I can throw on the Startup side of the weighing balance. Although this still does not take me to a firm decision but it does tilt the balance in the favour of doing my own startup a bit.
Now, with this article, I am getting started on Steemit where I don't only hope to make money but also learn about crypto currency, the dynamics of Steemit and engage with like minded people.
