Hi Everyone!
This is my first time on steemit thanks to my boyfriend (@kylek717). It is super cool to see everyone's opinions be able to comment in such a cool space.
A little (or a lot) about me;
I appreciate the small things in the world, I try not to take anything for granted and theres a reason for this. When I was 11, my parents divorced, unforunately something that is way more common than it should be. Fast forward through a couple of years and I'm 15, a sophomore in highschool, and my dad dies and I was never the same after that. I sort of went into a downhill spiral. I was depressed, I would bottle everything inside me and explode on people who were trying to help. I felt like I had no friends, I had terrible anxiety, I went through a bad break up, I thought I would become addicted to alcohol like my dad at one point. Then I started seeing a therapist and got put on some medication. Here I am, 20 years old, still dealing with my anxiety and depression which is now a lot more controlled than it was and for that i'm thankful. I'm a Special Education Major at Temple University and I have tried to be the most selfless person I can because of the loss I went through. I love teaching, I love inspiring young kids, I love seeing children with special needs succeed. I love making people happy.
I try my best to advocate for the things that are close to my heart; mental disorders, feminism, special education, addiction. If I can change one person's life or influence one of my future student's to do something amazing, then I will feel like I have changed the world even just a little. I believe that everyone is fighting their own battles we know nothing about and if I get through to just one person then the world will be better because of that.
Thanks for reading :)

Hello @sarahnicold and welcome to the Steemit community. Like you one of the reasons I came onto this platform was to help raise awareness of mental health issues. The more we can encourage people to talk about it, the more mental health will lose the stigma that is currently attached to it. I've upvoted and followed you. Looking forward to more of your posts. :-)
