I quit my job with no back-up plan and I will document my journey on Steemit.

Hi everyone,

I am 25 years old and up until last week I had a very well-paying job. However, I quit with no back-up plan.

The problem with my previous employment was that I did not enjoy it (I am ready for the shitstorm, but hear me out): 80-100 hour work weeks; last-minute cancellation of long-awaited vacations; a hostile work environment; repetitive, boring and meaningless tasks. This is definitely not what I imagined when people said "Do What You Love". Life is short, they say, but when you think back to the last two years and your memory becomes one continuous blur of stress, fatigue, unhappiness and loneliness, it is time to change something. It sounds cliché, but read this post by Paul Graham and you will understand.

So what did I do?

I took all my life savings and realised that I could last around a year without a job. I also always told myself that I would like to "do my own thing", that I am not like all the other people around me - "I am a born entrepreneur", "I cannot work for someone else"... Hence, I decided to find out whether I have been lying to myself all that time: could I really be a founder of a sustainable, meaningful, and enjoyable business? Or am I a spoiled idiot kid who should I just stop whining, get a job and clench his teeth - work for 45 more years, buy a house along the way, retire, and look back to an average, blurry life?

If I never try the first option, the second one will definitely kill me. But if I try and fail, I can always go back, find a job and continue the routine of work and sleep that defines most people's lives.

I plan to document my journey on Steemit. If there is enough interest, I would even love to exchange and discuss ideas, and share my good and bad moments with the world - too often we only see the shiny side of entrepreneurship, click-baity titles of self-made millionaires, without hearing about the millions who failed. If there are more people experiencing a similar situation, please reach out and we could help each other.

Let me know what you think, and I will soon share my first few ideas and steps in this new life.

Have a good one,
saywlad

good luck on your journey

I did this thing once too, left the job which I hated. Yes I don't have lots of money now as I have no job but I am on my way to success. On my journey I have found happiness and also understood what I would love doing without working on someone else. Good luck to you!
