Hello again
Many persons asked me how did I do to be a model ? Where to start ?
First, you need to ask yourself “why”.. Yes why do you want to be a model ?
Is it to be “famous”.. LOL Is it to earn money.. Is it to travel and explore the world.. Or just because you love fashion & style..
For me, after studying 3 years at the university and obtaining my diploma of personal trainer (yes I got a diploma hehe) I was fed up of the routine. I wanted to do something new, something more exciting. So I listened to my heart who was calling me for adventures and said to myself “OK let’s go, let’s do it!”
I was Young Wild and Free, so it was now or never. (That’s what happens when you watch too much of Tintin and Lucky Luke in your childhood…:D)
So I wanted to find a way to travel the world while working at the same time.
Ok, so now that I know what do I want and “WHY”, I was like all of you “Where to start ?”
To start in modelling you need to have very good pictures, professional pictures of course so you can put them in your book. (Your book is like your CV in modelling). This is how you’ll present yourselves to agencies.
So I searched on internet for some good photographers in Paris, where I’m based. I liked the work of Rachel Saddedine and Mathieu Dortomb.. So I contacted them and we planned a shoot day. (Note that when you’re a beginner, most of the time you have to pay for a professional photoshoot)
We took many good pictures with different styles/different atmospheres. Your book should be varied… For example : Portrait + Body + Suits + Casual Clothes.
Once I had my pictures (around 15-20) I was almost ready to send them to agencies. Then you need to have “polaroids” and videos of presentation “ Hi my name is Sami, I’m 23 years old and my height is 1m84…” Then you show your profile and done! You can do it with an Iphone or something like that, no need for a professional camera.
For the polas : 1 front/2sides/1back (Full body and half body) 8pictures
Note that sometimes agencies take models only from their polaroïds, but this is still quite rare.
Ok, now that I have stunning pics and I have my polas, what should I do next?
Now that you have everything required, you can send your pictures to agencies or to some agents around your city or around the world!
You can start in your city while studying or if you’re ready to travel, to leave your family, your friends, send it around the world.
People always told me “Oh Sam, you’re lucky to travel so much”, yes maybe a little but I WANTED TO and I was ready to make a lot of sacrifices. It’s not that easy to travel alone when you’re young, going to a new country with different culture, for 3/4 months contracts. But if your desire is stronger than everything else, do it!!! You’ll have no regrets.
-To find all the agencies around the world, go to Kmodels.com. Choose the countries where you want to go, see all the agencies there and go on their websites. You’ll find email address where you can send your pictures.
Ok, now that I’ve send my pictures by myself or through an agent, what to do ?
You’ll need to be patient and wait for the answers.
-If yes, congrats buddy you did it, you’re ready to fly and to start your modeling career.
-If no, be perseverant, be patient, work on your body, get that 6 pack.. Sometimes it also depends on the season, on the place left in the agency etc. Then you can retry 3/6 months after!
I remember waiting 4 months for a positive answer. Because when you start, you don’t have that much pics compared to other models who do Magazine etc.
The beginning is the hardest part, but like everything, never give up if it’s really what you want, always believe in yourself, work on being positive, work on your body, eat healthy. All that requires a lot of discipline and hard work my friends!!
If you have any questions, don’t forget! I’m here to answer you 🙂
In the next post about modelling, I’ll give you some advices about how to pose… With a video of me while working!
