Hey Hive friends,
It sure is good to be back...I love what you guys have done with the place!
It's been quite a while since I posted any content to Steem/Hive (exactly one whole year to be exact! Wow...the time really has flown by!). I had originally discovered and joined the Steem community back in August of 2017 just prior to the wild bull run experienced throughout the entire crypto-verse. During my time on Steem, I had mostly posted photo-centric content with the occasional text-based write-up or tutorial to spice things up.
For those of you who don't know me from my time on Steem, I'm in my mid-20's, living on the East-coast of Canada, and I'm currently a Biology PhD student working on a genomics project exploring the bacteria that live inside of insects. In my free time, I enjoy dabbling in photography since there's so much neat stuff out there to capture and share (I've shown off a few of my favorites down below). I'm also a big sports fan (NBA basketball specifically - the Toronto Raptors are my favorite team), though with the current COVID-19 shutdowns, there's not much to get excited about sports-wise these days... ☹️ In the past year, I've also taken up an interest in learning several programming languages (Java and Python so far) since those will give me an edge up in my scientific career and somewhere down the road could perhaps even allow me to get involved in a project or two here on Hive...
Back in my Steem days, I managed to keep up a daily posting routine for nearly 2 straight years. But as I'm sure many of you can agree, after such a lengthy stretch of constantly generating new content to post each day, I eventually found myself getting burnt out. So in May of 2019, I decided to take a short-term break from posting to build up a fresh library of content. Well...those short-term plans quickly got away from me as I became heavily wrapped up in finishing off my Master of Science thesis and now here we are on a totally different blockchain one whole year later!
Even though I wasn't posting any of my own content during that time, I was still very much keeping tabs on the happenings and developments on Steem (and now over here on Hive). All of the drama surrounding the Tron acquisition of Steemit Inc., and the subsequent hostile takeover of the Steem blockchain really caught my attention and kept me glued to my computer while I eagerly awaited any and all updates on the situation. That interest has now translated over here to Hive where we are seeing so many rapid developments and announcements amongst community members, developers, and witnesses. After seeing the community go to such great lengths in standing up for ourselves and protecting what we've all built over the years, I couldn't be happier with how well Hive has fared in less than two months of existence. Of course, it's somewhat of a shame that any of this had to happen in the first place, but I really do feel that Hive is now set up better than ever to become a truly-decentralized COMMUNITY-centric blockchain that we can all have a say in developing!
My plan going forward on Hive is to post similar content to what I had done before, which will mean lots of photos. The biggest change will likely be that I won't be posting at the same daily rate as I had been on Steem. That just became way too much over time, and given that I'm now in the early stages of my PhD thesis, it won't be long before I get quite busy with that.
It's such a nice feeling to be back and posting again! In my time so far with this community, I've gotten to know plenty of wonderful people and I can't wait to see what exciting things that we can all accomplish here TOGETHER!
Are you watching The Last Dance?
I haven't gotten around to watching it yet (I like to wait until all of the episodes of a show are out so that I can binge-watch them over a day or two 😄), but I've been hearing some really good things about it. With the last couple of episodes scheduled to come out in just a couple of days, I'll probably start watching it this weekend!
Considering that I either wasn't born yet or was very young when most of that Bulls run was happening, I'm really looking forward to learning about it all.
How have you been liking it?
It's great as it compares that 1998 title with the previous five in the ten hour long episodes. Well, the last two episodes come out this Sunday. Some of the details I knew about. I didn't know that much about Dennis Rodman until now.
If you have questions or problems, here's a tutorial that explains where to get help on Hive: https://peakd.com/hivenoobs/@hivepeople/hivenoobs-6-get-hive-help-and-tech-support
Feel free to tag us also if you have questions.
Thanks, it's so great to be back. I definitely have some catching up to do, so I'm sure that tutorial will help me get back up to speed. Cheers!
and if you have any other tutorial requests, please let me know...There are lots of communities to join also, have you looked at those yet? The Ask Hive community is really active and a good place to start..https://peakd.com/c/hive-173737/created
Yes, I've actually checked out the Ask Hive community already, which has been very helpful so far in helping me find some solid answers. I've also subscribed to the photography community and the Qurator community (they're a project that manually curates high-quality content on Hive).
Any other good ones that you'd recommend?
i love the Alien Art Hive, because I like kind of odd stuff....
Welcome back to the Hive.
