Here'a a painting I did of myself about 10 years ago. I was about 10 pounds lighter then. But I'm way happier now.
I live in Texas and raise chickens, garden, homestead, handbuild and throw pottery, make jewelry and leather shoes and wallets (so far.) I just love handmade useful objects.
This is Henry. He's the dog love of my life. He's a Maltese Chihuahua mix but he's got the best of both breeds personality. He loves to play, be picked up, and is sociable with people and other dogs.
My husband and I designed and build this chicken coop. We have 9 hens and unfortunately 1 rooster. Did you know you don't need a rooster to have chickens that lay eggs? Most people don't know that. A hen lays eggs almost daily all on her own.

You are hilarious, and creative, and a great mom to your chickens. We finally lost our rooster, but I can't imagine how. He stood down a fox that had approached the house one day until the chickens could make it to safety. Then the fox ran off. Boy was he aggressive! I got so I had to take something in my hands when I went outside to wave him off.
Love to trade chicken stories.
We have this broody hen... and I heard you could put a baby chick under her and she'll think she hatched it and snap out if it. We bought her a baby last night. I think this is going to have to be a post it's so long. This morning chick was out of the coop and on the ground. So I stuck her back under momma and shut the little door. Hope everything is okay in there. Momma hasn't snapped out of it yet. Advice?
One thing I have learned to the detriment of the chickens is that I need to back off and let them do their thing...just believe they are part of nature and know what they need.
This too will be a learning experience and I hope you share the results with us chicken lovers
Sadly you are absolutely correct. I'm pretty heartbroken. She killed the chick.
s o sad. There is much to love when raising chickens as pets but there are so many heart breaks too.

feed him estrogen until he starts laying eggs to earn his keep ;-) but as long as your neighbors don't complain or your cross-dressing chicken is not overly agressive I don't see the problem really :)
maybe lots of baby-chicken videos in the future ;-)
