spaingaroo arrives to Steemit, says hi to all

in #introduceyourself8 years ago (edited)

"Please allow me to introduce myself"
(insert sound of record stopping abruptly)
as the next line can't naturally flow from my mouth.
In case you don't know the reference, Rolling Stones, Sympathy for the Devil the next line goes on to claim to be a man of wealth and style.

As in stories I have read here a few times already, I first became interested in Bitcoin at the Papa Johns Pizza story. And did nothing about it, except read and take an intellectual interest.
But nothing.
So close to wealth :)

And although I have gone through plenty of money in my time, my habit of investing only in myself has not lead yet to wealth. Can't be far off now.

I would love to do a mash-up paraphrase of Ian Drury and George Best, and say that I spent 75% of my money on sex and drugs and rock and roll, and I wasted the rest. Probably a bit more rock star than my real life. And I should insert visual art where it says rock and roll which continues to downgrade it. I suppose. Depends on your view of the arts, I suppose. (winky emoticon)

And style I have, but maybe it's more Crocodile Dundee than Georgio Armani.

Meet @SpaiNgaroo, AKA serioussix, AKA el bicho (el bicho palo, un bicho malo, como decía mi mujer), AKA Scott Charles Leichhardt Hollingsworth. Yes, that last is my real name. My dad wanted to name my sister Gertrude Jane, and was over-ruled by his wife, it would seem. Maybe the mothers ganged up on him too.

Don't know, but apparently he was promised unlimited freedom to name the next.

Took four years, but he just waited and stewed over it, it would seem.

I was born on the far side of this 3rd rock from where I now live. I am a type of political refugee running from my own persecution, 'cause there's no other excuse for it. The far side, (shout out to Gary Larson for molding my sense of humour) in this case was the west of the eastern side (the middle, sort of) of the biggest island, or smallest continent or however you want to define it. Australia it is called, but there's plenty for discussion there. (I might go there in subsequent writings)

And the where I now live part is filled, in a random manner, by the place where the olive oil comes from.
seriously.
Spain produces about 50 percent of the world's supply of olive oil. And the province of Andalucia that I live in, called Jaén produces 70% of that. And the rest comes from the neighbouring provinces.

In 2014, world production of virgin olive oil was 3.05 million tonnes (table), a 9% increase over 2013 global production.[21] Spain produced 1.7 million tonnes or 56% of world production. The next four largest producers – Italy, Greece, Tunisia and Morocco – collectively produced less than half of Spain's annual total (table).
Some 75% of Spain's production derives from the region of Andalucía, particularly within Jaén province which produces 70% of olive oil in Spain.[23] The world’s largest olive oil mill (almazara, in Spanish), capable of processing 2,500 tons of olives per day, is in the town of Villacarrillo, Jaén.[23]
from Wikipedia I know, I know, but this is just damned statistics

An oily hell. The belief that all other forms of life compete for the resources leads to a type of continual war on life that makes the entire southern part of Spain just advance into the Sahara. (or maybe it's the Sahara coming north, but it's being called.) This place is incredibly fertile. Any land that isn't 'tended' becomes a tremendous profusion of life in a short time, but almost all is denuded to the bare dirt continously, and baked in the strong Andalusian sun.
I have been here for five years now, and the main impact it has had on my life has been to leave it incredibly, long-term changed.
EDIT: for clarification (I have been in Spain since 1999, although not until 2003 was I really legally living here. I was in Madrid until the previous change of which I spoke. )

Let me explain. I moved here to, once again, try going full time artist. I have wanted to be an artist since I can remember, and I have done it since I could. But I was on the wrong side of the rich dad poor dad devide, and also picked up poverty like a duck takes to water.
When the real estate market crashed in Spain in 2006/7 on onwards, places in the rural areas of Spain started plummeting in value. I decided in 2012 to finally buy a house in a small village to work without having to go to work to pay the high costs of Madrid, where I was paying 715 euros just in rent with my wife, and had been for years.
She was not onboard, (horrified by the idea of small town life, 'a living hell') so we split, not amicably at first, but by the time she was set up in her new place, we had worked it out, and we are friends now.

She was right too, of course, but I didn't see how at the time. And the splitting up from my wife, wasn't the change I refer to, either.

To cut a rapidly expanding story off at the knees, let's just say I came here with my little doggy, who was born in Australia too, so had shared most of my life in Spain with me, and now have nine dogs and three cats. And I don't have my little doggy. He's dead from unneccessary squashing under a slow moving four by four that ignored my shouts to stop.
And there have actually been thirty-five animals pass through my hands.
And I don't rescue animals, it's just ones where I had no choice but to intervene, and no-one to pass the buck to, that cared enough to accept it. I should have rescued hundreds, but couldn't and can't. Remember the poverty thing.

So I haven't exactly reduced my costs, nor have I been able to increase without limits, my ability to get work done.

But I never get cold sleeping in the bed with so many warm bodies. These last weeks of close to 30º minimum temps at night don't always spoil their enthusiasm for it, bit it does help somewhat. (that's 30 centigrade, so think mid-eighties you farenheiters)

So, I am going to be testing your patience by now, but if anyone wants, I will write more about my life and circumstances, and I will surely be writing about, and showing off my art. For now I'll give you a close-up of the Steemit sign I was holding up in the first foto.

And one final shot, with most of the doggies. (Bobby can be real lazy, and just turn round and go home and wait there.)

I'll do another post with my influences and so-forth soon

Thanks anybody who got through to here.

Good to see and read your introduceyourself post. Good work. If you write well and contribute in a positive way, it is possible to earn more on Steemit than you currently do at your job. I look forward to getting to know you better. @spaingaroo

thanks dihoa, I am not here for the money exactly.
I am more used to thinking of myself as an artist than a writer, but realise, (little by little) the web is for the word. So making my way slowly along in the dark. But I love this idea. It works for me. big hugs
