My Steemit Intro! I worked in Artificial Intelligence and huge ponderer of utopia/betterment

Can Steemit help humanity towards something better?

Hello Steemit Community. My name is Corey, a 38 year old transwoman in the Midwest and I'm finally getting around to introducing myself. I majored in Physics and worked in Artificial Intelligence for years after school. I've always been curious about the human mind, what makes us tick, and beyond that what even makes us sentient (which allows us to have conscious, not in the moment, abstracted thought.) I'm also a huge fan of utopian/distopian stories (currently reading Walden Two by B.F. Skinner) with a couple favorites being Atlas Shrugged and V for Vandetta.

My other long time passion in finding a better option for a small society. I don't always like using the word 'utopia' because it generates so many scoffs and responses of perfection is impossible. However, moving towards something better, is preferable to me than simply sitting in a status quo zero sum game. A major example of this is that we seem to be in a culture where the most important personal concepts and ideas are considered taboo topics and left to, at best, be behind closed door discussions. I can't believe that humanity will forever be unable to discuss ideas of how they individually connect back with the rest of the universe (spirituality/religion), connect with other individual (social politics) and connect with time (education, child rearing, aging/mortality.) I've found so many people that just can't have a civilized conversational learning session without being offended or stuck with the mentality of, "If I say it Louder it will be More True!"

Part of what got me excited about Steemit was not so much about the money aspect, but rather the motivation changes that money entails. Yes there are people who will try to cheat the system, but that's with anything. Most users seem to be excited to have the change to be compensated for providing, responding and voting on quality. This is where my future hope lies that this might be one mechanism to get these conversations actually progressing.

Even though various experience caused people to become violent, abusive and mean, I try to maintain my belief that humans are good by nature. I'm curious what good might come of this. It's not about being right! It's about being better!

Glad to meet everybody!

Corey

Liked the part about "If I say it Louder it will be More True!" ,
that has a lot of traction these days

Thank you!
It kind of reminds me of a zen quote of "he who knows does not speak. He who speaks does not know. "

Hi there! I like your post as I am an AI researcher myself and like to think about building a small community around AI research. Could you please expand on your thoughts about the small society? I'd love to hear it..

I'd love to be a part of an Ai group!
I'll have more on my small utopia idea in the next couple days, it's definitely long post, even on the higher level. Need coffee!

Wanted to let you know I expanded some more on my idea in my new post: https://steemit.com/steemit/@sykochica/how-to-make-a-small-utopia-and-steemit-might-be-able-to-help
I look forward to discussions :)

Is about being better is?

I don't quite understand, sorry. Could you clarify?

I really like that, and how true it is. When i was in AI I constantly tried to answer the question of "how do i know what i don't know. "

Thank you! So far I'm enjoying :)
