Introducing Myself: tessaragabrielle

in #introduceyourself7 years ago (edited)

Hello! I’m Tessara Gabrielle Dudley, a self-titled Poet-Activist and historian-in-training.

Here's a picture of me in my regalia for graduation last summer (Portland State University Class of 2017!):

I’ve lived in the United States for most of my life. Originally hailing from San Jose, CA, I’ve been living in and around Portland, OR, for the last 16 years, although I lived in Accra (Ghana) for the latter half of 2016 as part of a study abroad program. I’m excited to start work on my PhD in Labor History this autumn, for which I will be relocating to Illinois!

Here on Steemit, I plan to share various bits and bobs from my life. I have a lot of hobbies and interests, so my blog here will probably be a wild mix of poetry, art, thoughts on social justice, history research, and reflections on my academic journey.

I’m something of an anxiety!cat, as a result of being ADHD and autistic. Due to chronic pain issues, I’m something of a homebody, but I like connecting with people online.

Here’s a picture I drew of myself as an anxious kitty:

What else about me do I want to share? Well, I’m a Gemini with Aquarius Ascendant, if you’re into astrology. I’m biracial—Black dad, white mom—and Jewish. I like knitting, reading a wide range of books, drinking tea, drawing, listening to history podcasts, and cooking gluten-free food. My music tastes are pretty varied, everything from Nat King Cole to Nicki Minaj, Indigo Girls to the Band Perry, Frank Ocean to the O’Pears, and I’m almost constantly listening to music.

Oh, also: my name is pronounced Tess-ah-rah, not Tes-sarah, and even though folks commonly mistake it, I don’t answer to Teresa at all.

I look forward to connecting further!

Welcome to Steemit, Tess-ah-rah! (^ω^)
I love history! If the school I'm currently attending had offered a history program, I would have taken it instead of music(¬‿¬)

Hope you'll enjoy being part of this community.

See you around! :)

Thanks!

I came to history fairly late in my undergrad years, so I ended up minoring in it, but my alma mater does not offer a history PhD, so I'm heading east for grad school. I have considered majoring in music in the past, but I ended up joining the choir as a de-stressing activity instead!

Good luck on grad school!
I'm still hoping I can study archeology or history after I graduate from music ed...
And choirs, I love them! I might prefer to be part of the orchestra, but seriously, there's something about hearing human voices in harmony with each other and making beautiful music that can tug at your heart. :)

Thanks! I hope you get a chance to do history later, if you still feel passionate about it. I am so fascinated by history, and love talking to other historians (whether professional or lay).

I am obviously biased, but I think choir is amazing, for many of the same reasons as orchestra—it's a monumental amount of team work and dedication, put into something that can move an audience's emotions so strongly!

I am so glad you're here! I'm excited to learn more about you :D

I'm glad to be here, and likewise!

Welcome! Glad to see you over here. I look forward to reading your posts.

Thanks—I look forward to sharing, and following your work!

Welcome to steemit. Looking forward to reading some of your poetry and getting to know you better.

I’m also a homebody and deal with pain and sensitivities to almost everything because of fibromyalgia. That’s one of the reasons I love this platform.

Thanks, and likewise! I have fibro myself, so I'm definitely hoping this platform will be a community that I can be in that involves no pressure to be "on" all the time and out doing things like a completely abled person.
