My first post on Steemit

Hi everyone,

I'm new on this intriguing platform.
My name is Théo, I'm 19 and I'm studying computer science at the ENS of Paris (so my french and sometimes I make mistakes) in order to maybe, become a researcher :)

I'm currently doing an internship about how Facebook regulate access controls on our data and on the first day, I wondered if a social network based on the blockchain exists... I googled it and bingo ! I found steemit.com

So this how I discovered Steemit :p
Oh, and I'm currently working on a little language called Facebook Query Language 2 ^^ (the first one is dead)

I'm also an artist. I did comics during many years :) If you want to see some (if you are french it's better ,but you can also enjoy the drawing :p ) :

Hello theteoz! Welcome to Steemit! Hope you'll like the community here. As a start, here are 5 tips that we believe will be helpful to you:

1. Keep your passwords safe: Unlike conventional sites, Steemit has 4 types of passwords. Each offers varying degrees of access to your account, so know where and when to use each of them. Also, make sure to keep them all safe and secure.
2. Get Steem rewards: When writing a post, you'll have the option to choose how to receive your reward: "Default 50%/50%" or "Power Up 100%". As of this moment, choosing Default 50%/50% is the better option. But this can change over time. Check our post to know more.
3. Upvote wisely: When upvoting, wait at least 30 minutes after the post is published to maximize your curation reward. Also, make sure not to upvote too much too fast so as not to drain your voting power.
4. Know your Steem, Steem Dollars and Steem Power: Steem and Steem Dollars are the 2 main currencies here. Convert and power up more Steem into Steem Power so you can have higher values on your upvotes.

Hi from Canada @theteoz! I'm glad you found and joined us here on Steemit! I'm guessing that as you delve into how Facebook restricts and limits user content you will have lots to share with us. It's great that you will be able to directly compare Facebook with Steemit now that your here. I find it to be like night and day and am using regular social media less and less. :D

Yeah I study what should be your behaviour and your settings on Facebook and other social networks in order to enforce your own privacy policy.
I'm trying to understand how Steemit works for the moment but I'll see later the difference :D

That’s a good area of study seeing as the advent of social media has brought the need for taking personal control over ones privacy to the forefront.

I like to emphasize the importance of maintaining my privacy by saying, “What’s the point of freedom with out privacy.”

For the first time in human history it is possible to know what someone is actually thinking based on what they are clicking on or posting of their own free will. The ability to self publish is a huge win for liberty but if people don’t begin to value their privacy as well... they will begin to loose their personal sovereignty.

I’m glad there’s people out there like you who are seriously studying this. This is significantly impacting the fabric of our society and how we stay connected to each other.
