Hello Steemit!
My name is Iris. I am a native suburban Michigander who is a wanderlust at heart. I enjoy the pleasures of the earth, and spend my pastimes exploring what beauty it has to offer. I love exploring the aesthetics of nature through running or hiking. They serve as my meditative processes.
I have participated in two half marathons, but have yet to complete a marathon. Running itself has taught me so much about life, the importance of setting goals, and maintaining your own pace. I’ve come to understand the significance of not solely being in a race to get through it, but moreso to remember the obstacles you had to overcome to get you to where you are now. To catch up to that person in front of you, be an example and inspiration of those behind you, and to enjoy those who run alongside of you for the time being.
Hiking likewise brings me away from the outer noise and hustle and bustle of daily life and allows me to see the majestic beauty of the earth. I enjoy temporarily being one with the terrain and becoming awestruck by the uncanny ability of the sun and moon to illumine certain aspects of the earth’s terrain.
I am currently pursuing my passion to become a physician. It has been a long harrowing and arduous road. I took eight years off after receiving my bachelors of science in chemistry to work in the biotech industry in DC and California before returning to school. While my passion is for medicine, I continue to practice chemistry in different facets of my life. I make chemistry happen in the kitchen and through my love for humanity. I love to cook. I am always trying to recreate dishes from restaurants that rouse my taste buds. I’m still trying to get a handle on the whole baking thing, but that requires adhering to strict measurements. Although the finite baked goods I do know how to whip up my husband thoroughly enjoys.
I am a newlywed to a New Orleans native. I will tell you of our love story on a later blog. My husband and I love to travel whether by car, train, plane, or boat. If there is an adventure that lies ahead we are there. We aren’t the traditional couple as we are both pursuing our dreams and school demands us to be temporarily apart. He is currently a law student with the aspiration to practice civil law. I on the other hand, see him more as a future politician.
All in all, I’m just trying to find my footing in this thing called life, while attempting to make the most out of it. I am new to this whole blogging thing, but I thought I’d give it a try as an outlet to share my stories of love, travel, dreaming, downfalls, and success from the present and past.
