Hey Steemit, I'm a ex-video game montage editor who failed his first year at film school and dropped out the next year. Next month I'm shadow-directing on Netflix TV show. What do you think of my demo reel?

Woah hey guys. I have been eagerly awaiting my account certification! Really stoked to be apart of the Steem community. As a filmmaker, I feel I can really benefit from the amount of quality posts and discussions happening here. Hoping the Steem film community keeps growing wooop! Here's a little bit about myself:

When I was 19, I went to film school in Vancouver, BC, which is known as "Hollywood North". A considerable amount of Hollywood movies and TV shows are filmed here because of our low CAD in comparison to the USD. Most young people in the industry work as BGs (Backgrounders, or, "extras") on big Hollywood films. Myself included. In fact, I had a cool close up in 'Star Trek Beyond':

Because of this, my film school seemed to be more towards supplying the gears of Hollywood rather than nurturing creative ambition. I wanted to be a writer and director for 10 years, so I wasn't into the whole "supply Hollywood with grips and technicians" pathway.

I started my interest in filmmaking with Halo. I edited Halo montages from the age of 14, when Halo 2 first came out. I accumulated friends and fans all throughout the life of Halo 2 until the release of Halo 3 and onwards. From 2004-2010 I was all in. My whole life was Halo. We had system link parties at my place, recorded montages with our Dazzle 90 capture card, and eventually traveled to MLG events to record promotional videos for Steelseries and Red Bull. Here is my short montage demo reel. If you'd like to watch more rofl my montages just youtube search 'TM22 HALO' and you'll be good.

Since then, I've produced 4 short films. Two of which have premiered at one of the biggest film festivals in the world! (Toronto International Film Festival). Something that I never thought possible. Now, I'm starting my career as a television director while I produce my own films on the side.

My first short film 'The Blanketing' was made when I was 20 years old. Just after dropping out of film school. It is an 1800s period-piece which includes horses and babies. My second film is called 'Clouds of Autumn', and it takes place in the 1970s and is a portrait of a small family in Canada dealing with the effects of residential school. My third, called 'Anna Marina', is a film I'm making a completely separate post for. I made it in Barcelona with an actress I found off of... Tinder! Hahaha. And lastly, my latest film is a POV-shot experimental film about a boy trying to communicate with his dead grandmother through a VHS camcorder, called 'Grandmother'.

As I transition from short films to TV shows and features films I'd like to share my short film demo reel with you guys. What do you think?
