On a street in Cape Town, a dialogue between disjointed, emotive and more rational elements of memory. The speakers are contextualised within events preceding and following the Apartheid regime's unbanning of local mass organisations, and exiled persons. A fictional street vendor's recollections come forth as items he is selling, shrapnel or items littering the street corner, filled with pedestrians of diverse social status. The pavement scene is described within a cold urban landscape, while the pensive and warm images and dialogue juxtaposed, create a tension between the two elements of memory; a tension which is left unresolved. The dialogue is an evocative, lively metaphor for a more-than-twenty year period of events which, the closing lines suggest, leave those in the dialogue, with little certainty.
