7 super foods for good health

Note: this post was not supposed to appear in 'introduceyourself' tag, sorry for that :)

1) Raw nuts

Raw cashews, almonds, walnuts and other nuts provide a vast dose of fiber and omega-3 fatty acids. They are also rich in vitamins and minerals like iron, magnesium and calcium. Regarding data from multiple studies, experts from the Harvard School of Public Health estimate that substituting nuts, and other healthier proteins, for red or processed meat may reduce your risk of diabetes by up to 35%. Note: choose unsalted nuts to avoid eating too much sodium.

2) Berries

Blueberries, strawberries and cranberries are loaded with vitamins, fiber and plant compounds called phytochemicals. These compounds may help lower your risk of developing chronic diseases. For years, scientists have known that natural antioxidants found in berries may help your body curb stress that comes with aging. A study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry also suggests that berries may help slow age-related memory loss and other changes.

3) Salmon

Salmon is one of the richest foods in omega-3 fatty acids. Low in calories and saturated fat, salmon packs a high-protein punch per serving. It’s also high in B vitamins. Consuming salmon may lower artery-clogging plaque in your blood vessels, reduce levels of harmful triglycerides, and lower your blood pressure. According to research from the University of California at Los Angeles, an omega-3 fatty acid found in salmon may also help prevent late-onset Alzheimer’s disease.

4) Beans

Legumes such as lentils, peas and beans are high in protein and low in fat. They have a good source of potassium, iron, and phosphorus. They are also rich in soluble fiber, which can help lower your blood cholesterol and maintain healthy blood sugar levels. Considering researchers at the University of California at San Francisco, a high-fiber diet may help eliminate toxic compounds and carcinogens from your body.

5) Broccoli

Broccoli is among the healthiest leafy green vegetables highly rich in vitamins. It contains vitamins A and C, as well as folic acid. It also contains a cancer-fighting agent called sulforaphane. A study published in the journal Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention highlights the potential cancer-fighting benefits of broccoli. People with bladder cancer who ate more broccoli were more likely to survive the eight-year follow-up period than people who ate less.

6) Quinoa

Quinoa is a flavorful, easy to digest, gluten-free, and high in protein food. It makes a fine substitute for white rice or pasta. Quinoa is especially useful if you have type 2 diabetes. It provides as much protein as a bowl of rice, without spiking your blood sugar. According to research published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, daily servings of quinoa and other whole grains may also lower your risk of heart failure.

7) Green tea

Asian communities have experienced the health benefits of green tea for over 5,000 years. Green tea leaves contain the compound called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). This antioxidant is assumed to have several vital health benefits. The National Health Service reports that green tea may help lower your cholesterol and blood pressure. It may also ward off tooth decay.
