Hi Steemit! I've been poking around the site, writing a couple blog posts/comments and such for about a week now and I figured I should probably take some time to actually introduce myself.
Let's start with the easy part, my real (first) name is Tim! Here's what I look like in case you're curious:
By day I work as a software developer and I love (almost) every minute of it. Programming is kind of my forte, I started learning it on my own in high school (my inspiration was a graphing calculator that included some basic programming functions) and that continued into college where I learned all about software development and what I needed to make it into a full-blown career.
But I have some other interests too! Lately I've been primarily getting into 3d printing the past couple months and I'm also picking music production back up, and they're both a lot of fun. Here are some examples of what I've produced so far!
This is a version of Marvin that I painted myself. You may have already noticed him in my profile picture ;) It might not be the best paint job in the world, but hey I'm learning! Here's another iteration of him that I made (I neglected to do sanding on this one though so that's why you see the print lines):
In case you're wondering where Marvin comes from, he's a pretty well known model in the 3d printing community made by 3DHubs: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:215703. Of course I print plenty of other things, such as a marble machine which I posted about previously. I've also done things like this partially translucent vase:
Or this set of parts for a build-system ufo (more details on this Github page):
And then there's music! Here are a couple short examples I've made. Keep in mind this is fairly amateur stuff - it's not professionally mixed or anything.
I've made a few other songs as well (both longer and shorter), some better than others. I'm hoping to be able to post some more of them in the near future!
So that's a little bit about me and my interests! It may not sound like it from the tone of this post, but I'm actually very shy in real life and I see Steemit as an opportunity right now to branch out further from my comfort zone and try some new things. I like being able to discuss interesting topics and connect with others, and I'm hoping to do some of that here so thanks to everyone here for creating such a great community! I hope I can find my own small way to contribute here. Thanks for reading :)
Edit: I copied my blue marvin as the first image since my original thumbnail was cropped weirdly.
Welcome on board from south of you :)
hi im zack. i like the texture of the guy without the sanding :) i like the first song too. i like how short your songs are too. (not that they all are short like you said ) but i like short songs in general. anways, cheers, welcome to steemit!
Hi Zack, thanks for the kind words! I see what you mean about the grey marvin, I guess the print lines do work on him stylistically. I'll keep that in mind :)
I like short songs since they're easier to make than longer ones and there's less to think about, so that's cool to hear - maybe I'll focus more on short ones for now while I'm still learning.
cool! yeah there is a certain charm and efficiency to the "jingle" ya know. a 36 second song that gets stuck in your head is way better than an 8 minute song you cant wait to finish
That's definitely true. I like both short and long songs, though with short songs it sometimes feels like it ends too soon if I'm really enjoying it.
welcome to steemit community @goodaytraders
