Hello, SteemIt. Never thought I’d join a community with a name that sounds like a command to drop a turd on demand, but here I am. A coworker turned me on to SteemIt. This son of a gun urged me to buy Ethereum 3 months ago when it was at $12, and I balked because I’d never really heard of cryptocurrency.
Well, considering what Ethereum has done in the last 3 months, I jumped on the SteemIt train when he told me about this community. So far I’ve found some decent folks on here, but I’d like to harpoon some of the self-proclaimed whales.
The first thing you’ll probably notice in my pics is that I use a wheelchair for mobility. Back in 1994, I ran into a burning building to save a basket of kittens just as the roof collapsed. A crossbeam fell on my back and, well, now I don’t like cats.*
I’m not looking for pity though. Piss on pity. After losing the use of my legs, I earned a bachelor’s and master’s in literature, I taught English for 5 years at the college level, I slept with my first publisher at a newspaper job and ended her marriage, I met Willie Nelson and played onstage with his band, I won a dance-off challenge with a well-timed wheelie against the formidable Crazy Legs Lance in the barrios of Laredo, pushed a Charger to 143 mph racing a BMW (and won with a shoulder pass), I finished the Houston marathon in under 3 hours, won all kinds of 5k and 10k races, and learned to strum a mean ukulele from the West Texas legend himself: Jeffro.
Well, that’s just a few things. You get to have dabbled in quite a bit by the time you reach the ripe old age of 83. I'm also a pretty good shot, but I am from East Texas, so....
Expect to see a little bit of everything on my blog, but I’m going to stick to the original content. Hairy Kerry is my stage name, and I’m going by that. You’ll see quite a few uke songs sung to immaculate perfection for the music snobs out there. I’m also learning to play the fiddle again, so get out yer ear plugs.
I’m going to keep this short and sweet ‘cause I know the attention span of the average social media user ended after the first paragraph. While still longer than Donald Trump’s attention span, I doubt few of you made it this far. If you did, I’ll close by sharing that I currently work as a senior writer for an oil and gas company in Houston, Texas. Yes, I am part of the machine, but I’m looking to vacate that position ASAAPBJCATAMTWFHSICMBTTBB.
(This is where I'm supposed to beg you to follow me on SteemIt, but if you're already here, you can click on my handle and choose "follow." No reason to brow beat you with it.)
*Most of what I say is true, some is complete BS. But no, I don’t like cats.
Hello Hairy Kerry, welcome to Steem! :-)
Oh, and thanks for saving kittens, kittens are awesome, falling crossbeams sucks. ;-)
Much appreciated!
You should have listen to your co-worker about ETH when it was $12. What a bummer. A $1,000 investment in ETH would have have net you $22,000 in today value. Oh well...... : )
i'm excited to think i might earn some cash for my ramblings too!
Welcome to steemit! :-)
Thank you for the welcome! Good to be on SteemIt.
Followed!
Much appreciated! Looks like I'm already following you. Must be good stuff you're putting out there. : )
Great post @yournextstepdad (great name too :-D). I'm looking forward to seeing more from you. Upvoted and followed.
I appreciate it. I got you on my list too. :) I'm gonna go in and give you some upvotes now before I go walk the dog.
Appreciate that @yournextstepdad. Enjoy your walk.
Welcome to the steemit community. I am looking forward to more of your open mike posts. I'm from Texas too! It's good to see that steemit is making its way around.
Heck yeah! I had a coworker tell me about it a week ago. It's really an amazing platform...and what a great community. I had a good experience with the #steemitcampfire put on this past weekend by @barrydutton. It is a nice little gathering.
I'm going to start using your spelling of open "mike" because there is an open mic contest on SteemIt, and they are playing word police with tags, discouraging people from using the "openmic" tag. I have half a mind to use that tag on every music video I post because, well, rules are made to be broken. But why rock the boat, eh? Words are cheap and "openmike" works just as well. It works just as well as the mute button. Ha!
Thank you again for the welcome. Always good to meet a fellow Texan on here!
Welcome to Steemit Land!
Thank you! I went over and checked out your blog. I really dig your images. Definitely worth a follow!
Thanks and I appreciate the follow @yournextstepdad!
Welcome to Steem and Cryptocurrency! the future economies...
Glad you like to live no matter the cards.
RIDE LIKE THE WIND THROUGH LIFE!
Hell yeah. It's better than the alternative. Nice video clip. It's all about the power to weight ratio (unfortunately for me).
