Keep this thought central as a new Steemian.
Be very wary of people asking you to pay for this or that. While many are legit, as many are shady; especially people inviting you to pay for your votes.
In the next few weeks you will feel as if you're in school, learning all there is about the platform. It's pretty addictive knowledge.
They wouldn't ask; but, may I recommend adding @lexiconical and @jerrybanfield to your list of follows for consistent, and up-to-date postings.
Lastly, I will recommend @tipU as a way of giving a tip to people whose work you consider worthy beyond the up vote. Of course, do your own research, make your own decisions!

Ok, I will definitely add them and yourself to my followers list. I am really enjoying reading about what this platform has to offer and there does seem to be more things all the time - ie I didn't know of the tip feature - will read about that next.
