Hi Steem Family!
I have been involved in several projects that have the objective to make the world a better place. I must say it is not easy, projects that are socially or environmentally sustainable many times are harder to build. These businesses are harder to build not only since you inherently think of more stakeholders (society and environment), but also due to pressure from old obsolete institutions trying to maintain the status quo.
The problem is that the current status quo is to generate shareholder value and not stakeholder value.
The Crypto world can definitely generate stakeholder value, specially to society. However, one thing that frustrates me is the potential environmental impact.
I want bitcoin to be perfect, to disrupt the financial industry. However, at the same time, I don’t want it to harm the environment in the process. We are building a new economy, with this great opportunity, shouldn’t we do so in the most environmentally sustainable possible way?
What is ridiculous and annoying is to hear investment bankers claim that one of bitcoin’s flaws is the environmental impact. As if that governs any decision they make?
Even though bankers are not logical in stating the environmental impact, this impact has to be addressed.
I believe technological improvements will be implemented and bitcoin will find a way to fix the environmental impact. But which are the most feasible options? Proof of stake?
What argument to best use against the hypocritical and opportunist bankers that criticize bitcoin?
