Joining on July 4th, I saw this community rewarding every introduction post with a decent amount of money. I fell in love with the idea of being rewarded for introducing yourself and posting blogs. I held off on posting original content and introducing myself because I didn't really know what this community was about, but recently I have built up the courage to introduce myself on Steemit. I wanted to introduce myself to the community before the mainstream came in and diluted the posts. Now you might think I'm being greedy, but I'm not, I am rather disappointed, but my Introduction post has only made $1 so far. I am not complaining about the payout but I am regretting not posting my introduction blog on here before the mainstream caught onto Steemit. That is, because I feel like I missed the opportunity to introduce myself to the community that I was following before everything blew up. I feel like the community has not seen who I am and does not care anymore. Right now I feel left out, but I know that It's my fault for not acting sooner.
Now I just want this site to flourish and grow into a wonderful community that supports one another through curating original and thoughtful content. I wish nothing but the best for Steemit and it's future.
I hope everyone that reads this understands how important this community is to the original members of Steemit.

I understand your pain. I upvoted ;)
But if you go through the top posts I think there are already some voting bots at work (like I mentioned here: https://steemit.com/steemit/@afilja/steemit-cheaters-and-how-to-protect-the-platform-against-them) and of course the posts with cute girls get more upvotes, this is still the internet :P
I upvoted this and your introduction. Welcome to Steemit! :)
With that being said, I do know how you feel.. I feel the same way, more or less. I made $5.96 on my introduction post and $37.24 on the post I made BEFORE my introduction.. And that hurts a bit, as I would rather be awarded for who I am to begin with, before being awarded for posts I've made.
Anyhow, I'm still glad and I try not to blame myself for that.. Stay positive. That's essential! :)
Hey, I joined several hours ago so you did better than I did! :) What a fantastic idea steemit seems. I have barely even delved into understanding how it works. I'm a crypto nut however, so I love all things blockchain. I'm definitely still a bitcoin believer in terms of having a digital money that is deflationary in nature. Going through the steemit whitepaper now. This is very exciting. Good luck!
Oh man, better get ready for this.
People have such high reward expectations, but it'll all be diluted in a week. You should probably consider yourself to be lucky with that $1, expect much less per post on average soon enough. It's just the economics of the thing, only extremely good/unique content will be able to make some money in the near future - and it won't be much. Your best chance at really making some quick buck (which is sadly what 85%+ of users are here for) is to buy Steem and cross your fingers that this run-up will continue.
Sorry for the negative vibes, just too many people with high hopes on the verge of being highly disappointed. Here, have an upvote!
Thank you for the upvote!
Yea it appears that this platform is designed to make the devs and very early adopters rich and not really meant to be a fair and equitable way to reward quality content. I suspect this place will very quickly devolve into click-bait and spam and anyone creating decent content will be lucky to earn a few cents per post.
Well, it rewards early adopters like Facebook would reward its early investors. Is say in this case, more people profit than in the regular VC funding approach.
In terms of the content, getting some money is better than getting no money, but I do believe you're right. This platform will most likely always be linked to the monetary aspect first, and the content will suffer. I think the Steem power is ingenious, but i don't think it's enough for people to really feel invested and in need to upvote only top quality posts. I guess time will tell.
I'm a bit bummed myself, invested the time into writing a really long and cool intro and that was below $100, and posted something interesting yesterday as well, that didn't even make it to $1 ... for now I'll keep writing, but it's looking incredibly unlikely that any sort of meaningful side income can be made here, unless you're top 5% or something.
I guess time will tell..
Sounds like you're doing pretty well so far, I've only made like 23 cents off my skeptical replies :) It's crazy to me that Intro posts are even making as much as they do, I mean how much value would you place on someone making an intro about themselves? I honestly don't see how these post valuations can be sustained and pretty sure it won't be long until mosts posts are earning zero and the good stuff only gets a few cents... unless of course the two dev overlords who control a majority of the coins like your content... not really sure how this is supposed to be decentralized system.
I've seen some of my posts hit. Some I think are garbage and I get like $30, others I spend some time on and no one even reads or likes it! That's just how social media and blogging is. There's a lot of guides out there about clickbait and such to ring people in. You have to hold them in with the content of your post after. Good luck to everyone!
IMO, The thing your introduction is missing which is the main reason why it didnt make much money is a picture of you with Steemit written on it. Without that, it is easy for one person to fake many different accounts with numerous introduceyourself posts.
I have a picture holding a hello Steemit card. The link was broken last night but it's fixed now.
