Intro: This will be a journey

in #introduction7 years ago

I find myself at a crossroad; a choice between hard work to reclaim some sense of glory, manhood, self confidence, and health versus stay the course of the recent path which has been professionally successful but with a depleting sense of well-being and joy.

At age 55 I have just begun challenging myself physically, getting out of the comfort zone and over the next 10 months will be working towards achieving the "carrots" I put out of an easy reach. 50 Mile Trail Run in April 2018 and Ironman Triathlon in September 2018.

Posts to follow will share the struggles, setbacks, and accomplishments as I travel this difficult path. A favorite phrase which I will live by, "Dream It, Believe It, Achieve It. Join me on my journey! Thx

Without even knowing you @davambrose - I know you can do it!
If you conceive it, and believe it, you will achieve it!

A good resource, if I may, is John Lee Dumas' "100 Day Freedom Journal" - look it up and order a copy. The daily journal helps you restate your goal, provides benchmarks, and personal accountability. It was the first resource that really (ever) helped me begin to define and reach my goals. Before that, I simply looked at two goals longingly, at the same time... never reaching either. With this journal, I was able to clearly envision my goal, breakdown steps, and achieve what I wanted.

Also - when it comes to running. I used to hate it and say I would never do it... Then I discovered 'Zombies! Run!' an interactive story app which rewards more miles with more story. It is an incredible app and I highly recommend it. Also, as a starting runner, I found 'Couch to 5K' very helpful. Again, I set a goal for myself and accomplished a 10K 'Across The Bay' Chesapeake Bay Bridge run in under 1 Hour which was my 'I won't believe it if I do it' goal! :)

Finally, I would recommend reading works by Richard Bach, James Allen, Wallace D. Wattles, specifically The Science of Getting Rich - and Donald Miller, specifically his 'Storyline' material.

All the best! And please keep us posted on your training progress!

Thank you so much for the inspiration and suggestions. I will be looking int them :)
