Investment beginner

What are the best ways to get into investing? I have had terrible luck getting into investing with multiple companies doing splits and giving me negative returns. Where are the best places to research and have investment research explained to someone with zero experience? I would like to think I’m not the only one with this question. I would love to start a thread that would answer some questions and help others and myself get a foot in the door investing.
