Who are they:
IPBC is, perhaps, the first Spanish currency with a future, which is a lot, in a geographical area with no background or great passion for the "Crypto" world. Let us point out that it is not the same to create and develop in an area with roots and with accessibility to information / media / technicians than in the middle of an island (Tenerife) where the only thing spoken of is paella, beach and sun.
This, by itself, already says a lot about its creators: Their passion, will and knowledge of the sector are enviable. Part of the team behind IPBC have demonstrated their experience with a previous project, known as Devcups, which is a software development company focused on the legal industry. http://www.devcups.com/
Market:
The project is not limited to taking out a currency without a future or a copyable payment system. They jump into a huge market with spectacular growth rates day by day. The "enemy" to beat is nothing more and nothing less than youtube, and these are the numbers of users of its rival: 1,500 Million users !!!!!
Differentiation:
What weapons do they have to differentiate themselves? What will make them able to get a bit of the great cake they are trying to get?
I see several differentiating facts here:
- There is no advertising.
- There is no censorship.
- Decentralized system.
- The intermediaries disappear between the creator and the spectator.
- Democratizes incomes between the first and third world.
One of the most important differentiating aspects is censorship: It is known that YouTube is refusing to make payments to videos that deal, among other issues: wars, political ideologies or violence. Perhaps here they find an uncensored media. Think globally and in countries with high levels of censorship: This would be a solution.
Product:
Within the platform we can find: Movies, TV channels, series, music videos and other entertainment videos on different aspects (Games, sports, fashion, children, food ...).
In addition to all this, make no mistake, there is Porno (I entered just to see how it worked ehhh) :)
I do not know how this is posed internally among the coin developers.
I am clear that a large part of the community would prefer that the content for adults (that is, porn) should be a channel / page / currency / independent brand since it may take away weight from the page itself and end up becoming for the public in general on a page where I see porn for free and without ads (Future fork? I can think of).
PRODUCT:
How does it work? Where are the payments and the income? The solution is great, as well as fair: You see your video or movie, and while you watch it for free and without interruptions, the system mines IPBC from your device. That is, before giving "play" for the first time asks for your permission to use the free resources of your system and dedicate them to mine. This mining will be (Except a commission of 10%) intended to pay the author of the video. Great!!!
FUTURE:
The next April 5 the currency will make a fork, and another one in 2 months, but do not give yourself any illusions, both Forks are technical and will not generate new coins:
- The April 5 is to eliminate the mining with ASIC.
- Within 2 approximate months it is to change to POV, that is Power of Verification, seeking to be more energy efficient and to increase the rewards.
Another of the recent rumors is about new exchanges. I think there is something big to come, but as always, they can not say anything. Officially they only admit having applied for Kucoin, Bittrex, and Binance.
TECHNOLOGY
Behind all this idea, there are 2 differentiating technologies: IPFS and CryptoNote.
IPFS: Interplanetary File System (IPFS): Allows content to be loaded and resistant to censorship. With data stored in a distributed system throughout the world, no single country or entity has control over what content is placed on the IPBC platform, and no content can be modified without changing the hash and creating a new file. As indicated in the IPBC technical document, IPFS was used in Turkey to regain access to Wikipedia when the government closed the website.
CryptoNote: Allows the computer of the person who sees the contents to extract the coins to reward the creators. Similar to the numerous websites that have used mining in the monero browser on their platforms to use the CPU power of visitors, IPBC implements the same idea, but of course, with the knowledge of the users. While you are watching a video, you will be using your computer, and the rewards will go mainly to the creator. The use of the CryptoNote protocol allows the complete elimination of ads on the platform.
LONG-TERM DOUBTS:
The project seems spectacular. The idea is good. I only see 2 possible sources of problems in the medium / long term:
- Adaptation of the site to adult content and effect on the general public, with the consequent possible "loss of prestige" of the site. (If it's a place where you're going to watch porn, I will not upload my music content there).
- Copyright rights on many of the published contents. On this last, I have the doubt: If I upload the movie "The Avengers" and people see it, I earn money uploading pirated content? It looks like it is.
This is what IPBC thinks about copyright:
IPBC.io is a search engine that only displays links to external data. All data accessible via these links are the responsibility of the IPFS users who have uploaded it. IPBC will never be able to delete this information in the event of copyright infringement by these users, since IPBC has no administrative access to the IPFS network. On behalf of the actual rights holder, IPBC can remove entries from the IPBC search engine. In this way, however, the data remains accessible via the hash value with every IPFS reader from the IPFS network if a user knows this hash value or the link is stored in another search engine.
That is, it allows, since it can not eliminate, the content that violates copyright. We will see how can they deal with this in the future. (Napster?)
