Decentralize your DTube videos with a simple Discord bot command!

in #ipfs6 years ago (edited)

If you are a content creator on DTube, or just a casual viewer on the platform, it is common to have difficulties playing old videos. As DTube mentioned, they delete old videos off their servers to save disk space, so if your video is not elsewhere in the IPFS network, your video will not be playable. Therefore, I had to come up with a brand new product to make hosting videos on IPFS easier.

So I decided to write a Discord bot myself from scratch to grab the IPFS hash of the video, using that to download the video from DTube’s servers then pin it to the IPFS node so that the video is available outside DTube’s servers so if DTube decides to delete your video, or their servers go down, your video will still be playable!

Great stuff techcoderx. It's be a really good experience working with you and deploying this software onto different nodes.

Totally amazing service and relevant tool to bring better decetralization and video backup. So cool and so simple. Well done!

Especially with the @dlive situation right now... this will be the most user friendly tool to keep their videos on the IPFS network.

If they're ready, they can clone the GitHub repo of the bot and set it up themselves on their own nodes for further decentralization 😉

great post and timely considering what happen with Dlive. thank you!

Yeah recently people are complaining that their old videos are getting deleted off dtube's servers, and it's not easy for them to setup IPFS nodes themselves to host their own, so this is a user friendly tool for newbies!

cool beanzzzz !! :)

Wow. I never knew that @dtube deleted older videos. Thanks for creating a tool to help keep our videos live! Much appreciated.

Do you know if @dlive does the same?

AFAIK @dlive uses centralized servers

Also just heard that they're leaving the Steem ecosystem... 😡

Really?! That’s some bad news. Are they migrating to EOS?

Crazy....
Oh well, I guess it's back to DTube for me

Nice work! Than you very much!

Cheers.

Are you going to do this for all videos or is that something we have to add. I am so non-tech - sorry if that is a dumb question.
