Hello friends,
I am a huge fan Apple, as most of my friends know. I used to manage multiple cell phone stores here in Vancouver, Canada (years ago, now). Ever since I got my hands on an iPhone, I couldn't ever switch back (I tried a couple of times!).
I wanted to get a sense of how the community felt about the new iPhone X. I'm not totally sure how I feel about the FaceID technology and how invasive that could be. Also, that price tag?!?! In Canada, the 64GB is going for over $1300 - thats pretty dang close to the price of a MacBook.
So heres the thing.. and this is a sensitive to topic to some in the community. I can't afford to just throw $1300 plus on a handset each time I need a new one (currently rocking a iPhone 6 Plus). So I decided to buy and resell the iPhone X, attempt to make some profit and use that cash to grab myself a handset after the hype has worn down.
Now, I know this infuriates many buyers - making a profit off a commodity like this. But heres the thing - I'm not buying out a product that will no longer be available. The only people that this truly affects are the ones that NEED the latest product right now and didn't want to wait up to till midnight to pre-order their own handset. If you don't want to pay a mark up fee, then wait the 5-6 weeks and have one delivered to your door step.
I'd love to hear others thoughts on this. Does anyone else buy and resell handsets for some extra cash on the side? Any success or horror stories you could let me know of in the comments?
Do you know of any websites to buy handsets for a cheaper price when trying to re-sell? I sell sneakers and other misc items on ebay.
Hey @goddaily - I don't know of anything that is confirmed as this isn't something I look into much. I follow Hypebeast / Highsnobiety and they will occasionally list different companies that are doing a sneaker launch but I don't recall seeing many posts that will state when something is selling for less. A friend of mine suggested I join a couple of Supreme/Bape facebook groups that focus on buying and reselling and that I could potentially resell my iPhone X on there. If I could resell an iPhone on a group like that, then I'm sure you could do the same with sneakers.
