I Have Spent the Past 69 Days Walking Around Ireland - Here Are Some Photos from My Walk

in #ireland5 years ago (edited)

Earlier this summer, I returned home after ten years travelling around the world and decided to start walking around Ireland. I am taking this adventure because I enjoy walking, camping and spending time outdoors.

With my backpack, tent and camera, I started walking from my brother’s front door in Dublin. Since then, I have walked for 69 days and over 2,250km, from Dublin to Cork and all the way up the west coast to Donegal.

I am now in Antrim, Northern Ireland with just 400km to go until Dublin.

Please feel free to ask me anything in the comments.

Here are some pictures of the trip:

Living in Dublin, I sometimes forget what a beautiful country we have here.

It’s true. I found a lot of people saying that to me on social media. Ie Watching the videos helped them rekindle a love for the countryside here in Ireland :)

Impressive! I sooo love Ireland :-)

Thank you so much!

Awesome photos! I've never been to Ireland, but this has seriously made me think about going! Very cool!

Thats amazing to hear, thank you!

Wow, that's epic! How how the weather been? I've only seen a little of Ireland, but I'd love to go back some time.

It was blue sky every day from Dublin all the way to the west coast. Then it rained every day for 4/5 weeks going up the west coast - the wettest august since 1954. But once i reached Donegal it was nice again and weather has been kind to me since then :)

Well done on keeping going through that. I hope you were able to dry out some of the time.

Hi Derek, love these pictures and happy to see you posting on Steem again after an absence. I am hoping you can verify ownership of this content - I messaged you on Facebook at the @derekcullenoutdoors page and would love a reply on Facebook to prove this is really you. BTW if it is something you don't mind doing, best practice on steem would be to have a link back to your Steem blog on your website or facebook so that it is easy to confirm you are the owner of the content you post here. We get a lot of people ripping off content for $ rewards on Steem, so I hope you understand why I am asking you this. Cheers

Thanks for confirming on Facebook :)

Thank you so much. I watched this post for 24 hours but there was no votes or views so i assumed that nobody would ever see it. I only logged in just now to see the questions! And yes, I reply on Facebook all day but due to the number of comments/messages, I’m finding it hard to keep up. I walk 35/40km every day and curate videos in the evening so time is short :)

Totally understandable, and thanks again for confirming ownership of content. Content discovery on Steem is a bit hit or miss, but there are a number of curation groups that do actively look for great content like this so a post can blow up even a couple days after publishing if it is found by a curation group. Good luck on your adventures!

I strongly think this is his account. And I think he won't reply this comment any time soon. He doesn't reply his YouTube channel comments, because of the network while he is hiking. He clearly stated this on YouTube channel. It's kinda of impossible(not totally impossible though) for an imposter to create an account 2 years ago in order to start reaping the rewards now.

While I would agree that chances are pretty good this is his account, it is certainly not the case that it is impossible for someone faking accounts to create accounts, make a post, then lay dormant for a while before returning. In fact, that is a very smart way to rip people off while making it seem more likely to be legit. I have seen way too many instances of scammers getting big votes from curation groups because they seemed legit. Asking for verification is common sense given Steem dynamics; assuming content is legit because it "feels" that way, is... not common sense given Steem dynamics. I could point you to dozens and dozens of examples of similar instances where it seemed like an account was legit, and the account received large votes from curation groups, only to be finally proven to be scams when the actual content creator was contacted (speaking from long experience first as a Curie curator, then as a Curie reviewer, and now as cofounder of @c-squared/@c-cubed curation group). Cheers

Yea, you absolutely correct. I have gotten some good rejected articles by these scammers. I have reported some actually. Yea. One point with this author is that, this is not even a video article but a photography and travel article. These are images only the author can have.

I know you a lot(from Curie curation and as a curie reviewer, a year plus or two years ago, technically that's not even knowing you a lot 😄). I actually thought you were the founder or co-founder of @curie, but I do know you played a major role to making what @curie is today. Already doing great with @c-squared and @c-cubed. We are honoured having people like you on this platform, because leaders like you are few, I only wish for more people like you(hoping I'm one too ☺️)

He confirmed on Facebook :)

Holy cow, that's hardcore, and I've lived some crazy adventures myself!

But my question is, how was the feeling going back home after 10 years? Because I've just returned myself and it hit me hard.

Hey there, I returned several times during these years but found myself restless. I looked for sponsors for one year but failed to find any. Instead, I started to work online as a freelance writer and pay for my own trips. That way, I was able to work in my tent :) Long story short, I did this over and over until I grew an audience and started to attract sponsors ....its now my “job” :)

Great plan, that was my plan also, but when I came back home and realised that everything was exactly the same way and after I had experienced a lot of positive changes, suddenly I felt highly demotivated, I had no one to share my enthusiasm with.

Feels like I need to go solo again to get out of this dark comfort.

The wild Atlantic way is absolutely beautiful to travel along. It must be even nicer walking. I just love those small towns and villages that still hold true to old ireland.

Also if doing posts like this I would recommend using the #travelfeed tag as they have a strong community and website to show your work to.

Thanks so much for the advice Niall!!

Awesome travel article. Went through your YouTube channel, it is great and very active. Kindly be publishing your YouTube videos here also. Great post

I did not know it was okay or worthwhile to publish videos like that on Steemit?

It is @derekcullen. You will get some steem from this article. Although the price is low(same as many alt Coins) now but know that the price was once above $9 for one steem.

This is very impressive. You've done so much and I wonder what you're up to when you finish this 'walk'. Your photos are great! It must be so therapeutic to walk and walk and walk. Your head must be completely cleared :)

Thank you for sharing and I wish you good luck with the rest of your challenge.

I just keep walking. After this trip, I will live alone for 2 months during winter in a remote cottage here in Ireland. In the new year, I have picked out at least 5 long distance trails that i will walk :) thank you!

Hello Hello!

Hey Marcy, I was alone the entire time. These photos are screenshots taken from video. I make videos every day about my walk around ireland and post them to social media - FB and Youtube :)
