Crypto in Ireland - Issue 5

in #ireland7 years ago

This week we bring you some more news from Ireland as well as upcoming local events where you will be welcome to come and learn about Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies.

What is happening on the Irish Blockchain scene?

Weekly News

Enerport

I have been hearing about upcoming ICOs in Dublin. Many companies have been working away quietly, developing business plans, building teams in secret and I am sure we will see many Irish based companies launch high profile ICOs in the coming months but this week it was Enerport from Galway that made the headlines.

Enerport were not launching an ICO but they announced what they were working on at an energy conference in Cork.

Peer to Peer Energy Trading...

Blockchain is set to revolutionise the supply chain Industry, probably its most promising use case in many ways, and Enerport sounds on the face of it like an extension of that idea. Enerport will allow energy customers to trade or gift their electricity.

Crypto Divas

I am really enjoying this series and format by @jilliangodsil and Morgan Pierce. The show is a short 15 minute format with good and bad news stories from the Week in Crypto.

Crypto AM

The second show broadcast from Ireland this week was by the Crypto Coast/Crypto AM team from Dun Laoghaire . The focus of this weeks show was on Money.

  • The team had two CEOs as guests; Charles Dowd from Plynk, an Irish based digital (not blockchain) provider, and Kevin Murcko from Coinmetro.
  • Will and Luke also provided ICO news and research and there was some news from around the world.

Steem Dublin Meetup

On Friday I met @jeffjagoe and his friend @brennanwalsh from the States who were visiting Ireland for St. Patricks day. This was an mini @steem-dublin meetup with @beanz, @misslasvegas, @ishtar and @sonicphoto at Against the Grain in Dublin. I got to show @jeffjagoe the app I am working on and I was delighted on the feedback at this stage of development.

Dublin Crypto Talks

This was the second meetup I attended by Dublin Crypto Talks. The topic discussed this week was "Cognitive Bias and Cryptocurrencies". The Speaker David raised many interesting points and the evening finished with a raffle for coins and a masternode for FreedPays (which I happened to win) as well as networking and some drinks.

If you want to learn more about Crypto in Dublin I would definitely recommend this group. A very friendly bunch and interesting topics at each event such as ICOs, News, Trading, Mining as well as Wokshops for people new to the space looking to set up wallets and generally get started.

This Week

Thanks for the mention Ed. I've been approached by a few upcoming Irish ICOs and there are a lot coming up, I agree that we'll likely see a wave of them coming together, I'm hoping that Ireland brings in regulations soon so that they can launch without the worry of future repercussions.

Some of those Crypto talks look interesting, cognitive bias is a good one with cryptos. ICS are merging with the BAI today too out in Dun Laoghaire, it's open to the public, but tickets are €250 I think or thereabouts.

Anyway, thanks for all of the great updates! Ireland is growing in this space a lot.
