The beauty of Rome #1

in #italy4 years ago

All the streets of the world lead to Rome and we all hope that travel will be easier again soon.

The city has preserved all the glories of its past, therefore, there are countless unique attractions and monuments that cannot be neglected while visiting, but in this article I'll mention two lesser known gems that you may miss in this vortex of beauty and art that is Rome.

One of the most romantic gardens in Rome, the Giardino degli Aranci is located high up on the city's Aventine hill offers a stunning optic effect just by entering where St Peters' cupola stands framed by the trees' branches, a place where even today's romans go in the morning to free their minds from the chaos of modern world and be engulfed by the poetry and peace this place bring.

But an even more beautiful view awaits curious eyes, in an hidden spot through the keyhole in the gate of the Priorate of the Knights of Malta, located in Piazza Cavalieri di Malta, you can see the cupola of St Peter's framed by a beautiful display, this spot is know by locals as "Buco de Roma" pictures can't do justice you have to see it with your own eyes.

Another must visit point of interest is for sure the church of St. Louis of the French, a reinassance church built in 1589 located in Piazza di S. Luigi de' Francesi just a couple of minutes by feet from the much more known Piazza Navona.
This incredible place despite being full of it is not only a place of spirituality, in fact this church has the pride to own several Caravaggio's canvases. It's not an everyday feat being able to watch so closely to such masterpieces, the use of the black and the mastery of shadows gift Caravaggio's canves a level of reality that always cast a spell on me everytime I see them.

Thank you for reading, I wanted to share a couple of lesser know places and I hope that you can visit them in person as soon as possible.

I will surely do more bits like this in the future, on Rome and other Italian cities too.
