Traveling in Italy – Day 1 – Away We Go

My wife and I got up at around 9 AM and did my normal paranoia spotchecking. Are all the lights off? Is everything unplugged? Are the electronics hidden, you know, in case we get a robber who doesn’t feel like flipping a couch cushion?

We ordered a Lyft because I’m still angry at Uber for consistently charging 20% over Lyft and we were off. I spent the whole time wondering if I had locked the apartment door, but got over that, completely forgetting until just this moment that I gave my neighbor my key and could’ve had him lock the freaking door.

We were on JetBlue through Expedia, so we actually had to wait in a line before security. It was weird. I’m really used to basically going to my gate. Also, I fly Southwest pretty much exclusively, so learning a whole new concourse was particularly scary for me.

Chik-Fil-A was available and for the first time in a while, I found a Chik-Fil-A outside of Sunday, which meant I could enjoy the buttery battered goodness of fantastic chicken sandwiches. We got on the flight and found ourselves at Logan International Airport in Boston.

All I know of that city is from Good Will Hunting. I had my inklings that it was a typical northeastern city. Overly developed, kinda run down, not built for the land and style of transport, but the skyline is rather breathtaking. I get it. I get why you would like Boston. It’s wicked awesome.

We went to find the international gate and immigration, but apparently Boston doesn’t do that. We were about twenty feet from where the Dublin flight was taking off. We had five hours to takeoff. So we got a burger from a Boston pub.

I was adorned in my Caps shirt, a piece of clothing that comes up a lot this trip as I only pack three t-shirts as we had laundry access at all the AirBnBs. Nobody bothered me. Or cheered. Made me sad.

Everything else was pretty uneventful. Just a bunch of Scrabble to deflect boredom. Nobody in Boston is really interested in making a connection, so bantering was out. We boarded our flight and headed east.
