Ivanka Trump, daughter and adviser to US President Donald Trump, has arrived in Hyderabad for the annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit co-hosted by India and the US. For the first time, the GES is being held in South Asia. The three-day summit, from November 28-30, will be held at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) and Hyderabad International Trade Expositions (Hitex).
Ms Trump is leading a delegation of senior White House officials as well as American entrepreneurs. The theme of this year's summit is 'Women First, Prosperity for All' and will include 1,200 young entrepreneurs, and most of them are women.
While Ms Trump has been to India before, this will be her first visit as a senior White House adviser. She was invited for the summit earlier this year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his state visit to the US.
"When women do better, communities and countries thrive. GES hopes to inspire innovators, create new initiatives, and foster lasting partnerships," the daughter of US President Donald Trump told the Times of India newspaper.
"I aim for GES 2017 to be a global celebration that elevates the importance of empowering and investing in women entrepreneurs."
She was accompanied to Hyderabad by a large delegation of women entrepreneurs from the US.
The Hyderabad International Convention Centre and the Hitec City area have been turned into a virtual fortress with over 10,000 security personnel, including commandos, guarding roads, hotels and the venue, the Indian Express newspaper reported.
The summit has drawn over 1500 entrepreneurs and investors, the majority of whom are women, from over 100 countries.
Begun by former US president Barack Obama in 2010, the Global Entrepreneurship Summit is an annual convention that gathers emerging entrepreneurs, investors and supporters from across the world.
Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are scheduled later on Tuesday to inaugurate the summit being co-hosted by their countries.
Trump is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the summit which has as its theme: Women First, Prosperity for All.
